Jets WR Holmes may miss a few games

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes will miss multiple games because of a left foot injury, ESPN New York reported Monday.

Holmes sustained the injury during Sunday's 34-0 loss to the visiting San Francisco 49ers. X-rays were negative. He had an MRI Monday morning but coach Rex Ryan said he did not have the results.

Holmes may seek a second opinion. Ryan said doctors have not determined whether there is muscle or ligament damage but an Achilles tendon injury has been ruled out.

"I'm not sure how many weeks he'll be out, the real extent of the injury," Ryan said. "We just know the X-rays were negative. That's good news. Obviously, it looks doubtful for this week."

The Jets host the Houston Texans on Oct. 8.
