Jets had higher grade on Manuel than Geno Smith

The New York Jets drafted rookie quarterback Geno Smith in the second round, a decision that followed the Buffalo Bills drafting E.J. Manuel in the first round.

The Jets had Smith ranked second on their draft board in April behind Manuel, according to Metro New York.

Per the report, “The Jets had a late first-round grade on both Manuel and Smith, but they had Manuel higher.”

Per the report, the Jets would have drafted Manuel in the second round where they picked Smith or later in the first round if they had moved back in the draft.

Manuel has completed 58.8 percent of his passes this year for 1,972 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Taken 23 picks later, Smith ranks second in the NFL with 21 interceptions.
