Jets Need Darrelle Revis Back on Track

After watching Nick Folk miss a PAT and get a FG blocked, is it too early to say same old? Let me clear the air and say, it is too early. We would have to suffer through a few more heartbreaks to say that. But let’s be clear; the Jets must improve and that starts with the secondary.

Revis vs AJ Green Recap

After both looking at video tape, and yelling at the TV screen during the game, there was a glaring issue. It seemed Revis and the other corners were playing way too soft. Revis was giving at least a ten to fifteen yard cushion at times. That is not going to sit well for timing plays and that is what Andy Dalton did successfully. He made timing throws and connected. Revis did not do anything to disrupt AJ from getting to the spot where Dalton threw it. Give Green credit for just running his routes and blowing by Revis at times. Give Dalton credit for staying in the pocket even after getting sacked so many times. I give blame to Revis for not getting up to the line, but I also blame the coaches on the defensive side of the ball. They could have played some press coverage. It sometimes seems like the Jets play prevent the whole game. Let’s just say that Revis is going to try to do what he has to, to prove the naysayers wrong. There are many who feel his dominant days are over and that Revis Island has become a vacation spot for visiting wideouts. Time will tell. Knowing Revis, he will have a bounce back game.

How Revis Can Stop Sammy Watkins

Looking back at last year, it may be a long day for Revis. Week 17 probably still haunts Darelle, knowing Sammy burned him time and time again. Looking at last year’s footage, Revis gave Watkins a huge cushion again. In order to have success, Revis must come to the line, and do some things to mess up Tyrod Taylor’s timing.

You know the Jets will be bringing the house with Sheldon Richardson coming back from suspension and the dominant front seven going to work. Be that as it may, Revis must get up in Watkins’ face, pushing him and changing it up. Doing one thing over and over will kill you in this league. The Bills’ offensive coordinator Greg Roman is going to go to the video tape and scheme as if Revis will just give Watkins room all day. If they are correct, and the Jets’ defensive side of the ball does not change, it will be a long day for the secondary; namely Revis yet again. Revis has a better chance of making plays when he is closer to his man. If Revis gets up front, then the secondary can back him up, not let Sammy gain 10 yards by just literally stopping and catching. Stopping simple curls out in the flat will be a major key to Revis stopping Watkins, especially if Sammy is not 100% healthy.
