Jeff Brohm earns one-year extension through 2029 with Louisville football's win over Duke

No. 18 Louisville picked up its seventh win of the season, against No. 21 Duke on Saturday, which granted coach Jeff Brohm a one-year extension with a $6.5 million base salary in 2029.

That amount is 100% guaranteed as long as he's not terminated with cause.

Per Brohm's contract, he is set to receive a one-year extension through Dec. 31, 2029, if Louisville reached seven wins at any point during the six years. The former Louisville quarterback accomplished the feat in Year 1. Louisville started 6-0 for the first time since 2013 but fell to Pitt on the road during Week 7. After a bye, the Cardinals rebounded with their second top-25 win of the season by downing the Blue Devils, 23-0, during homecoming.

Brohm initially was given a six-year contract with a $5 million base salary for 2023 and a $100,000 increase during each of the next six seasons when he was hired in December.

Brohm will earn another one-year extension through Dec. 31, 2030, for a base salary of $7 million if Louisville wins 10 games at any point over the next six seasons. The contract allows for only two extensions.

"Winning is what everyone wants. That's what the goal is," Brohm said. "Yes, we want to try to do it the right way. Yes, we want to try to build things and make the fans happy. But sometimes it's not always easy. So, you've got to battle through it. ... I just think it's important that you don't worry about the prize at the end. You worry about one game season for us and when it's over, you look at it and say okay, what did we get accomplished? So, we've just got to continue to push forward."
