Jamie Reed, who led the South Oldham High School football team to 13 straight winning seasons, has stepped down as the Dragons’ head coach.

In a Facebook post, Reed said he’s accepted a position as assistant principal and athletic director at East Oldham Middle School.

“I am proud of the accomplishments we have shared over the last 13 seasons,” Reed wrote. “I leave with only one regret — that we didn’t bring a state championship home to our community on my watch.”

Reed compiled a 114-44 record over his 13 seasons. His 2016 and 2018 teams both finished 12-2 after falling in the semifinals of the Class 5A playoffs.

Reed is a Dallas, Texas, native who played quarterback at Tusculum (Tenn.). He coached on the college level at Tusculum and Morehouse and spent five seasons as a high school coach in Georgia before taking the South Oldham job in 2010.

“He built a first-class program here,” South Oldham athletic director Joe Richie said. “It’s hard to find guys that build these types of programs where success just becomes a part of it. Not only did he build a good football program, but he gained the respect of a community he wasn’t a part of at first. He built it into something great.”

As part of the new Kentucky High School Athletic Association realignment, South Oldham will be in Class 5A, District Five this coming season with Anderson County, Collins, Scott County and Woodford County.

Richie said the school is accepting applications for Reed’s replacement.
