Jamestown Region FCA to hold event at Newman Arena Sunday

Oct. 13—JAMESTOWN — If you are looking for something to do on Sunday — maybe head over to the University of Jamestown campus.

The Jamestown Region Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is holding a Fields of Faith event at Harold Newman Arena on Oct. 15.

"I am a new hire to FCA and really felt that this event could be a good way to bring the ministry of Fellowship of Christian Athletes into this community," Sara Hegerle, the Jamestown Area FCA director, said. "We have great athletic facilities here in Jamestown and add to that a lot of people fired up about their faith — that's a great combination for a powerful event."

Fields of Faith is a peer-to-peer movement where students from across the nation gather on their school's athletic field to share faith stories and challenge each other to apply the Bible to their athletic and personal lives.

The event is set to begin at 4 p.m. and will feature an inspiring talk from Hunter Pinke.

Pinke is a Wishek, North Dakota native. While attending Wishek High School, Pinke competed in basketball, football, track and field and American Legion baseball. He graduated from Wishek in 2016 and went on to play football at the University of North Dakota.

Pinke was a tight end for UND. During his time at UND, Pinke served for three years on the leadership team of the UND Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

In 2018, Pinke was in a skiing accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Since his accident, Pinke has taken to speaking at FCA events where he shares his story of gratefulness and overcoming adversity.

Along with Pinke, Hegerle said the event will feature talks from Jordan Klein, a student from Valley City State University and Conan Hirsch, the youth pastor at Victory Lutheran Church in Jamestown.

Klein will be sharing her faith testimony while Hirsch will share his testimony and bring a Gospel message. The University of Jamestown worship team will also hold a praise and worship service.

Hegerle said this is a community event for all ages. The event is free to the public.

"FCA is a ministry that has a vision to see the world transformed by Jesus through the influences of coaches and athletes," Hegerle said. "We are encouraging everyone to be there.

"This event will unite the community in and around Jamestown," she said. "People will be able to enjoy fellowship with each other and hear a lot of great people tell their stories. My hope is everyone leaves the event encouraged and filled with hope."
