James Monroe boys and girls post victories at Montcalm on Friday night

Feb. 10—MONTCALM — The thundering hooves of James Monroe's boys basketball team has been heard all over the ranks of West Virginia Class A basketball since the Mavs dropped down to Class A.

The Lady Mavericks had done their own share of making noise and kicking up dust this season before heading back up to Class AA. Lately, however, they hit a slight lull.

Mary Beth Meadows blazed away for 23 points while Maggie Boroski fired up 21 and James Monroe ended a three-game losing streak, getting back in the saddle with a 73-20 win over the Lady Generals at Montcalm High School, on Friday night.

Mya Dunlap chimed in with 15 points for the Lady Mavs (12-8), who outscored Montcalm 23-3 in the first quarter and never looked back.

Summer Williams scored eight points to pace Montcalm. Mady Hudgins, Taylor White and Tori Sizemore combined for 12 points.

James Monroe 76, Montcalm 25

MONTCALM — The Mavericks put four players in double figures while making life complicated for the Generals on the other end of the floor in a Class A boys nightcap at Montcalm High School.

Ryan Cole drained a trio of treys on his way to a team-leading 16 points for James Monroe (13-2). Cooper Ridgeway and Big Kahuna Brady Baker scored 12 points apiece, while Layton Dowdy added 11.

Donovan scored 13 points to lead Montcalm (7-10).
