Jamaal Williams says Lions offer to him was ‘disrespectful’

Jamaal Williams is now with the New Orleans Saints. The former Lions running back held his introductory press conference with his new team. In the process, the fan favorite took a swipe

Wearing a Pikachu beanie, Williams treated the Saints media to a rollicking glimpse into his effervescent personality.

He acknowledged that the Saints “came out of nowhere” to sign him, based on where he expected offers to come from. Then came the dirt on Detroit.

When asked if he had an opportunity to stay in Detroit, here’s what Williams said,

“The offer they gave me, I felt like was disrespectful and showing that they really didn’t want me to be there like that.”

Williams signed in New Orleans for three years and $12 million total, with $8.15 million guaranteed and a $1.9 million signing bonus. The Lions signed free agent David Montgomery from the Bears for $18 million over three years.

Williams continued,

“But it’s all love (for Detroit). Like, I know my teammates, everybody there at the Detroit Lions got love for me and all that. But, at the same time, we couldn’t come to terms and — it’s just funny, that’s all.”
