Jaidyn Sellers, Kaden Taylor voted the Register's Iowa Ortho Athletes of the Week
Panorama girls track and field athlete Jaidyn Sellers and Waukee Northwest boys tennis player Kaden Taylor were voted the Des Moines Register's Iowa Ortho female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 6-12.
Sellers won female Athlete of the Week by the slimmest of margins over Dowling Catholic girls track and field athlete Annie Smith. Sellers received 40% of the vote and Smith earned 39%.
Sellers turned in a phenomenal performance at the Class 1A state qualifying track and field meet in Earlham on May 9.
She ran the fastest 1A qualifying times in the 100, 200 and 400. She also tied for the best qualifying jump in the high jump while winning all four events.
Sellers ran the 100 in 12.19 seconds, the 200 in 25.35 and the 400 in 57.76. Her best jump in the high jump was 5-feet, 4-inches.
Taylor was voted male Athlete of the Week with 55% of the vote. Cedar Rapids Prairie athlete Quinton Alexander came in second with 14%.
Taylor is returning to state to defend his 2A individual championship in boys tennis.
He defeated teammate Vivek Kothari in the finals of the 2A district meet at Sioux City on May 8. Both players qualified for the 2A state singles tournament, which will take place May 21-22.
