About the Jaguars

  • The Jags are 8-7 overall on Monday nights but 7-3 at home. Coach Doug Pederson had a 5-2 record on Monday nights when he was coaching the Eagles. Every team in the NFL has played at least seven Monday night games since the last time the Jags played on Dec. 5, 2011.

  • Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen has six games left to break Calais Campbell’s single-season team record of 14.5 sacks. Allen has 12 sacks this season and last week passed Yannick Nkougue for second place all-time on the team career list with 39.5.

  • Allen and Travon Walker are the only edge rush combination in the NFL who have at least 30 pressures each.

About the Bengals

The Bengals have a 15-game losing streak in road prime-time games. The last time they won on the road in such games was Dec. 13, 2012, against Philadelphia. Cincinnati is 3-20 on Monday night on the road and has lost nine Monday games in a row.

Cincinnati has Joe Mixon at running back and signed tackle Orlando Brown Jr. The Bengals are still last in the NFL in rushing with 75.8 yards per game.

Wide receiver Tee Higgins is returning after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury. Higgins has caught 27 passes for 328 yards this season. He played against the Jaguars once, catching four passes for 77 yards in 2020.

Key Matchup

Jaguars CBs Darious Williams and Montaric Brown vs. Cincinnati WR J’Marr Chase

If the Bengals offense — without quarterback Joe Burrow and without a solid running game — stands a chance against the Jaguars it likely will need Chase to make a few big plays. Chase leads the Bengals with 75 receptions for 914 yards (12.2 yards per catch) and is ninth in the NFL in receiving yards.

Cincinnati wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is tackled by Jaguars cornerback Shaquill Griffin during their game in Cincinnati on Sept. 30, 2021.

It would help the Bengals immensely if Higgins can be close to 100 percent. Higgins has been out the last three. In the Bengals’ 24-21 victory over the Jaguars in 2021, Chase caught six passes for 77 yards. Higgins didn’t play.

Williams continues to lead the NFL in passes defensed (16) and Brown has done a credible job stepping in for Tyson Campbell at the other cornerback spot.
