Jaguars sign LS Carson Tinker; OL Ben Bartch passes physical, returns to active roster

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed long snapper Carson Tinker, the team announced Monday morning.

Tinker's signing comes after starting LS Ross Matiscik injured his right shoulder during the team's preseason victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday. Matiscik was injured during the team's first punt coverage and was involved in a fumble on that play, recovered by Jacksonville.

In addition to signing Tinker, the Jaguars also activated guard Ben Bartch off of the team's active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Bartch passed his physical and is slated to practice for the first time since suffering a reported dislocated knee against the Houston Texans last season.

As a corresponding move, the Jaguars placed veteran defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux on the team's reserve/injured list. Mondeaux was signed to a one-year deal with the team during this year's offseason.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Monday that Matiscik would be "day-to-day" due to his injury but was optimistic about his eventual recovery.

"He's gonna be fine," Pederson said. "He'll just be a little sore. He's kind of day-to-day and we'll see how he is in Detroit this week. [The team is] probably learning towards holding him out if he's sore, I don't want to have any setbacks with him at this point. We'll see where he is at the end of the week."

Tinker, 33, played for the Jaguars from 2013-18 as the team's starting long snapper. He suffered a torn ACL prior to the 2017 season and was injured again the following year, ultimately placed on injured reserve due to another knee injury. He was released in 2019.

Since then, Tunker has had stints with the New York Giants (2020-21), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2021), Las Vegas Raiders (2021), Los Angeles Rams (2021) and the Seattle Seahawks (2022).

Getting Bartch back will be big for Jacksonville as fellow OL Tyler Shatley continues to recover from an incident with Afib a couple of weeks ago.

Bartch was placed on active/PUP at the start of training camp and will not have to miss any games during the regular season.

Jacksonville has utilized veteran OL Blake Hance in Shatley's place at left guard. Now, the team can return to their 2022 starting guard in Bartch.

The Jaguars drafted OL Cooper Hodges in the seventh round of this year's draft and have worked him in at right guard, though he could offer positional flexibility at left guard if the team deemed it necessary.
