Jaguars elevate WR Jacob Harris to active roster with Zay Jones ruled out vs. Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars have elevated receiver Jacob Harris from the team's practice squad to the team's active/inactive game-day roster ahead of Sunday's Week 3 contest vs. the Houston Texans.

The move comes after the team ruled out starting wideout Zay Jones due to a knee injury suffered during the team's 17-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

Elevation does not mean a player will necessarily be active. Harris is simply eligible to be active if the team chooses to make him part of the 48-man active game-day roster. Jacksonville has opted to deem both rookie wideouts Parker Washington and Elijah Cooks inactive through the first two weeks of the season.

Harris' elevation comes via the league's standard elevation rule, which allows a team to elevate a maximum of two players per week from the practice squad to the team's active/inactive game-day list. The player will then revert to the team's practice squad the following day at 4 p.m.

The rule gives teams the ability to pluck from their practice squad without using a spot on the team's 53-man roster and doesn't require a team to cut the player from its roster, potentially subjecting them to waivers.

Harris can be elevated two more times before the Jaguars would have to sign him to the team's 53-man roster, a total of three for the season.

The Jaguars originally signed Harris to the team's 90-man roster following a tryout during the offseason in May. He was subsequently waived by the team in August before the league's 53-man roster deadline before being signed to the team's practice squad after clearing waivers.

Harris became one of the more intriguing wide receivers during training camp and the preseason due to his size at 6-foot-5, 211 pounds, and speed. Harris caught three passes for 74 yards during the preseason, including a 42-yard reception during the team's Week 1 preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
