Jaguars bring back longest-tenured player, re-sign OL Tyler Shatley

He's back.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Friday that the team has re-signed veteran offensive lineman Tyler Shatley, who became a free agent at the start of the new league year.

Shatley, 32, is the team's longest-tenured player, joining the team as an undrafted free agent shortly following the 2014 NFL Draft. Since then, Shatley has signed short-term deals to stay with the team. He finished a two-year contract extension this past season.

In 10 seasons with the Jaguars, Shatley played in 145 games, starting 51 including six games during the 2023 season. Shatley has started 36 games since 2021.

Shatley missed time during camp last year, dealing with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), something he recovered from after a couple of weeks, missing no time during the regular season.

The Jaguars have worked to improve the team's offensive line throughout the offseason. They signed veteran center Mitch Morse, extended left guard Ezra Cleveland and reworked a deal for guard Brandon Scherff to retain his services this year.

All moves were made in an attempt to not only get better protection for quarterback Trevor Lawrence but to also help the team's abysmal play in short-yardage situations.

"We’ve got a plan, we’re going to stick to our plan, we’ve got to be convicted on it, we’ve got to present it to the players the same way and make the necessary corrections this offseason to fix those areas," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday.

Shatley's return gives the Jaguars more depth at both guard and center, giving the team more flexibility through next year's draft.
