Jaguars 2023 roster review: OL Tyler Shatley

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is coming soon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

When Tyler Shatley signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent, Gus Bradley was the team’s head coach and Chad Henne was the starting quarterback.

Coaches, quarterbacks, and every other player on the roster have come and gone, but Shatley has stuck around, proving year in and year out that his versatility and reliability up front is too valuable to toss away.

Shatley’s skills proved especially useful in 2022 when the Jaguars lost starting left guard Ben Bartch to a season-ending knee injury in October. The ninth-year veteran stepped into the starting lineup and the Jacksonville offense didn’t miss a beat on its way to the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

It’ll likely be yet another training camp battle for a starting role for Shatley, and his spot on the roster has been tough for anyone to wrestle away.

Contract (2023): $1.85 million base salary, $500,000 prorated signing bonus, $200,000 roster bonus, $100,000 workout bonus, $800,000 miscellaneous bonus, $3.45 million cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars signed Shatley as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2014.

Highlight:

Quote: “That’s a guy you want on your team, as far as the type of person he is but how he prepares himself. Every week it’s like he’s a starter, whether that’s at center or guard. Any of those three spots in the middle, if something happens, like what happened to Ben [Bartch], he’s ready to step up, and when he’s in there, it’s really seamless.” – Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Shatley
