Jacksonville Jaguars GM says Trevor Lawrence’s injuries are ‘alarming’

After an excellent start to their 2023-24 season, where they started 6-2, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ second half of the season stretch was rough, leading to them missing the playoffs.

The Jags lost four straight games and five of their final six, ending the season with a 9-8 record. A huge part of their second-half disaster was the injuries starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered.

Lawrence dealt with many injuries this past season, including a high ankle sprain, a concussion, and a shoulder injury in his throwing arm. One injury is bad for a quarterback, but three is something that an organization needs to address.

This isn’t on Lawrence, as the Jaguars’ offensive line went from one of the better pass-blocking units in 2022 to one of the worst in 2023. Lawrence needs to be protected, and Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke discussed this during a press conference on Thursday.

“Your quarterback has a throwing shoulder injury, a knee injury, an ankle injury, and a concussion all in one year? That’s alarming,” Baalke said. “We got to work to improve that. There’s a lot of things that contribute to that. But we do have to do a better job there.”

It is certainly alarming, as you want to protect the face of your franchise. We see it year after year… an offense can only be so good if the offensive line isn’t playing well. Baalke made it clear this is beyond Trevor, and there is no doubt that they will look to get him under contract for a long-term deal.

“As far as Trevor and his long-term relationship with this team, there’s no doubt that we’re going to get something done at the appropriate time,” Baalke said.

Hopefully, we will see the Jaguars improve on the offensive line in a big way next season.
