Jacksonville Dolphins storm to ASUN lacrosse championship game by routing Coastal Carolina

Five Jacksonville University players combined for eight first-quarter goals and the Dolphins went on to rout Coastal Carolina 17-5 on Thursday in the semifinals of the ASUN women's lacrosse tournament at JU's Rock Stadium.

Nine players scored for the second-seeded Dolphins (11-7), led by three goals each by Sarah Elms, Lauren Crafft and Brianna Samuels. Grace Hobson had five assists.

JU will face No. 1 Liberty (12-6) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Rock, the fourth year in a row that the two teams have squared off for the ASUN title. JU won the previous three meetings but Liberty snapped an 0-10 streak against the Dolphins by winning 12-10 at The Rock on April 1.

However, the Dolphins have won their last six ASUN games since then by an average score of 21-6.

Liberty won their semifinal game 21-8 over No. 4 Queens. Ten players scored goals, with Cami Merkel leading the way with five.

Craft scored JU's first goal 1:47 into the game, and scored the final goal of the first period to give the Dolphins an 8-1 lead. Jacksonville scored its last six goals of the period in a span of 6:33, then blanked the third-seeded Chanticleers (12-7) in the second quarter to lead 12-1 at halftime.

Molly Brock and Lauren Ellis added two goals each. Goalkeeper Addy Tysdal had eight saves.
