Jackson area boys basketball rankings: See who is on the rise

It’s almost postseason time for West Tennessee boys basketball.

With the end of the regular season coming this week, it’s time to rank the top teams in the area.

Brackets will be released as the regular season comes to an end.

Here’s the latest top-10 rankings for West Tennessee boys basketball.

1. Dyer County (21-2): Pierre Isom and Jamin Gauldin helped Dyer County earn a season split against rival Dyersburg and pick up their 13th win in 14 games and have a chance at earning the top seed in the district tournament. Last week: No. 1. This week: at Obion County (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), at Crockett County (7:30 p.m., Friday), vs. Obion County (7:30 p.m., Saturday).

2. Bolivar (19-3): Tracy Jones and the Tigers have continued to win in dominant fashion, having earned a victory in 12 of their previous 13 games. Last week: No. 2. This week: at Fayette Ware (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), vs. Haywood (7:30 p.m., Friday).

3. USJ (21-4): Mills Terry has been playing his best basketball as of late, including a big double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds in Friday’s win over Sacred Heart. USJ has won its last nine games. Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. TCA (7:30 p.m., Tuesday).

4. TCA (19-6): Kaleb Williams and Braden Waller each eclipsed the 1,000-point mark last week and the Lions have won five of their last six. TCA’s last two losses have come by one point each. Last week: No. 5. This week: at USJ (7:30 p.m., Tuesday).

5. Union City (21-5): Malaki Brooks has continued to provide the excitement with his athleticism and his dynamic scoring abilities for the Golden Tornadoes. Brooks had 26 points and nine rebounds in Tuesday’s win over Lake County. Last week: No. 6. This week: vs. Greenfield (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), vs. Huntingdon (7:30 p.m., Friday).

6. Ripley (17-7): The Tigers are continuing to play at a high level with four straight wins by 19 points or more. Ripley has also won nine of its last 10 games. Last week: No. 9. This week: at Westview (7:30 p.m., Monday), vs. Westview (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), at Milan (7:30 p.m., Thursday).

7. Chester County (18-5): Chad Barham and the Eagles have hit a hitch in their momentum, having lost two of their last three. But a big win over McNairy Central on Friday may have restore that momentum heading into the final two games of the regular season. Last week: No. 3. This week: vs. Hardin County (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), vs. Lexington (7:30 p.m., Friday).

8. Dyersburg (16-7): Thadd Hill found a prolific 3-point shot to take down Crockett County. The Trojans struggled in Friday’s rivalry game against Dyer County, snapping a seven-game win streak. Last week: No. 8. This week: at South Gibson (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), vs. South Gibson (7:30 p.m., Friday).

9. McKenzie (12-7): Tate Surber and the Rebels saw their eight-game winning streak snapped by a solid Houston County team, which has won 11 games in a row. McKenzie has lost twice since Dec. 28. Last week: No. 7. This week: vs. Big Sandy (7:30 p.m., Monday), at Milan (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), vs. Houston County (7:30 p.m., Thursday), at Big Sandy (7:30 p.m., Friday).

10. South Side (10-6): Robert Liggons helped led the Hawks to a dominant second half in Friday’s Cross Town Rivalry against North Side. The Hawks have won five in a row and seven of their last eight. Last week: Not ranked. This week at Lexington (7:30 p.m., Tuesday), at North Side (7:30 p.m., Thursday), at McNairy Central (7:30 p.m., Friday).
