Ja Morant suspended from Memphis Grizzlies after flashing apparent gun in second video

NBA All-Star point guard Ja Morant has been suspended from all team activities after brandishing a gun in another Instagram Live video, the Memphis Grizzlies announced Sunday.

The viral video was taken from Morant's close friend Davonte Pack's Instagram account. Pack was also with Morant on the night of a previous gun incident in a Colorado nightclub in March, and Pack was banned from Grizzlies home games earlier this season after a confrontation with players from the Indiana Pacers.

"We are aware of the social media video involving Ja Morant," a statement from the Grizzlies read Sunday. "He is suspended from all team activities pending league review. We have no further comment at this time."

The NBA is investigating the video that gained traction across social media on Sunday morning. Morant was suspended eight games due to conduct detrimental to the team in March after brandishing a gun in a Colorado nightclub.

“We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information," NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said.

The Grizzlies don't have many scheduled team activities this offseason. The NBA Draft will be held June 22. After the draft, coach Taylor Jenkins could be joined by president of basketball operations and general manger Zach Kleiman for their first offseason media availability.

Morant signed a five-year rookie scale maximum contract extension worth $192.2 million last offseason that will kick in during the 2023-24 season. The deal took up 25% of the Grizzlies' cap space with the potential to go up to 30% if Morant made All-NBA this season.

Morant didn't make All-NBA, which resulted in nixing more than $39 million in potential earnings. The eight-game suspension in March factored into Morant's All-NBA chances.

Past decisions have also impacted Morant off the floor. He has become one of the biggest faces of the NBA through endorsement deals with Nike, Powerade, Hulu and many more notable brands. The arrival of Morant's first Nike signature was delayed in April.

Morant's next Ja 1 colorway is expected to be released on May 25.
