Iowa State basketball lands commitment from Wisconsin high school player Xzavion Mitchell

Iowa State basketball added another piece to its 2025 recruiting class on Saturday with a commitment from 4-star small forward Xzavion Mitchell.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward out of Oshkosh North High School (Wisconsin) – the same high school as former Cyclone and current Indiana Pacer Tyrese Haliburton – is ranked the No. 3 player in Wisconsin, No. 29 small forward in the country and a top-120 player nationwide.

Oshkosh North's Xzavion Mitchell puts up a shot against Oshkosh West's Tristan Johanknecht during a game on Jan. 14. Mitchell and Johanknecht are top returning players for their respective teams this season.

Mitchell held offers from Cal Poly and Wisconsin, and Marquette showed interest but did not offer the high school junior.

The North junior was named to the Division I All-State team in Wisconsin after helping the Spartans to a 21-6 record – according to MaxPreps – and averaging 25.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and three assists per game. He shot 55.2% overall and 37.3% from 3-point range, according to North basketball's social media.

He joins an Iowa State class ranked No. 11 in the country before Mitchell’s commitment.

T.J. Otzelberger’s 2025 recruiting class also includes 3-star point guard Macari Moore out of Michigan. Moore committed on March 18, marking two commitments in five days for the Cyclones.
