Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball 2023 international tour schedule announced

The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team took over the sports world last March and April as they made a magical run through the NCAA Tournament and into the national championship game.

Led by one of the biggest stars in all of sports, Caitlin Clark, the Hawkeyes became appointment television and were everywhere you looked. So, why not take things global this summer to keep the fun going? That is exactly what the Hawkeyes are doing during their international tour of games this summer.

The Hawkeyes will play three games overseas in August in Italy and Croatia against some international talent.

The tour starts in Naples, Italy, on Aug. 6 as they take on Team Slammers in what is an 11:30 a.m. CT tipoff.

Following that, the Hawkeyes head to Croatia for two games. First up is a matchup with the Croatian Club team on Aug. 11 at 12 p.m. CT in Split, Croatia. Following that is a game against the Croatian All-Stars on Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. CT in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder previewed the Hawkeyes’ overseas expedition last week.

“For me, these trips are more about the summer extra practices that you get than over there, because the competition is so different. Sometimes it’s really, really good. You’re playing national teams. Sometimes it’s awful. They’re playing international rules. To me, the competition isn’t really what matters. It’s the practices that you get now that will help you and you kind of get a head start on the next year.

“To me, when you go overseas, it’s about building chemistry, having fun. It’s a reward for the players that they get to actually enjoy this experience. For recruiting, it’s nice that recruits know, ‘Hey, they go on a foreign trip once every four years and it’s really fun.’ But, it’s about chemistry and memory-building for me,” Bluder said.

It remains to be seen if these games will be able to be viewed via online streaming or other means. Should there be a link or other way to watch the Hawkeyes take on some international opponents, Hawkeyes Wire will be sure to share that link and provide every chance to tune into some fun international matchups.
