Iowa Hawkeyes make top 5 for elite 2024 PF Donnie Freeman

The Iowa Hawkeyes are among the final five suitors for talented four-star power forward Donnie Freeman.

Freeman announced today that the Hawkeyes, Texas, Alabama, Syracuse and Georgia Tech are in his final five. He also revealed that his commitment date is set for May 11 at 2:30 p.m. CT.

The final five beat out offers from fellow Power 5 foes LSU, Maryland, Kansas State, Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-9 forward is out of St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. Iowa has been in the mix for Freeman for some time. The Hawkeyes offered on Aug. 16, 2022, and he visited Iowa City on Sept. 16, 2022.

Both 247Sports and On3 have Freeman rated as the No. 32 player nationally in the 2024 class. 247Sports regards Freeman as the No. 6 power forward and the top player from Washington, D.C. On3 rates Freeman as the No. 5 power forward and top player from D.C.

ESPN rates Freeman as the country’s No. 35 player overall, the No. 5 power forward and as the top player in D.C. Lastly, Rivals ranks Freeman as the No. 54 player nationally.

Judging by some of the recruiting experts’ predictions out there, it seems as though the belief is it’s trending Syracuse’s way. 247Sports’ Colby Giacubeno submitted a crystal ball prediction for Freeman to the Orange on April 25.

Similarly, a series of Rivals FutureCasts have come in forecasting Freeman to ‘Cuse. The first came from Andrew Barth of The Juice Online, Rivals’ Syracuse site, on April 24.

A little more than an hour later, Barth’s colleague, Richard Schnyderite of The Knight Report submitted a FutureCast for Freeman to Syracuse. Lastly, national basketball recruiting analyst Jackson Collier of Rivals put in a FutureCast to Syracuse for Freeman.
