Injury Roundup: Week 14

Raymond Summerlin dives into the injury reports to bring you all the fantasy-relevant news for Week 13 of the NFL season

Week 14 was not a good one for two of the best players in the NFL. It’s hard to find anyone better than Rob Gronkowski and Adrian Peterson at their respective positions and both went down on Sunday. Let me take you through the carnage.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports that initial reports are that Rob Gronkowski has suffered a torn right ACL against the Browns. Gronkowski will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the true extent, but there is a good chance he is done for the season. In Gronkowski’s absence Shane Vereen had an even bigger role than his already extensive one as he saw 17 targets, catching 12 of those for 151 yards including a rushing touchdown. Danny Amendola should also see more targets going forward.

Adrian Peterson was forced from the game against the Ravens with what looked like a serious injury, as he had to leave on a cart, but after being evaluated he was diagnosed with a foot sprain and he doesn’t believe it will end his season. He's headed for an MRI on Monday and it probably won’t take much to rule him out for the rest of the season with the Vikings out of the playoff race. The worst case scenario at the moment would be if he suffered a Lisfranc injury. Until we know more Toby Gerhart needs to be picked up.

Wes Welker left the game against the Titans with a concussion. Welker also sustained a concussion in Week 11 and brain injuries this close together often result in multi-week absences. It looks extremely unlikely he will be cleared on a short turnaround for the Thursday night game -- and possibly beyond. Jacob Tamme saw more snaps with Welker out and could have a little more value going forward, but most likely the other pass catchers will just be relied on more heavily.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-week $300,000 Fantasy Football league for Week 15. It's $25 to join and first prize is $25,000. Starts Sunday at 1pm ET. Here's the FanDuel link.

Eddie Lacy returned to Sunday's game in the third quarter after exiting with a second-quarter ankle injury, but Lacy admitted his ankle bothered him in the second half of Sunday's win over the Falcons. He returned with his left ankle heavily taped, and didn't seem to be moving around well. "I definitely couldn't push off of it as much as I wanted to," Lacy said. "I could feel it whenever I ran and, if I was healthy, I could have broken a couple of tackles. But I couldn't because I couldn't push off." Lacy ha a nice matchup against the Cowboys next week, so hopefully he’ll just need some rest going into next week.

Keenan Allen left the Giants game with a shoulder sprain, but returned to continue his great season by catching his second touchdown of the game and taking an insurmountable lead in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year race.

Reggie Bush aggravated his calf injury during warmups and didn't play a single snap. The Lions didn’t update us on the injury, so it’s hard to know the extent and if the extreme snow had anything to do with why they held him out. Joique Bell could have value going forward if the injury holds Bush out of any more games.

Lamar Miller sustained a concussion against Pittsburgh. Miller took a big hit during the second quarter and got up very slowly. Daniel Thomas, who was a surprise active, put up good numbers in his absence and if Miller can’t go next week he’ll have value against the Patriots’ defense.

The Cardinals believe Tyrann Mathieu suffered a torn left ACL. Speaking after the game, coach Bruce Arians said it "appears" Mathieu tore his ACL. He will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the initial fears. Mathieu has been a defensive stud all season long and it’s a big loss for the hot Cardinals.

Jonathan Stewart left Sunday night's game against the Saints with a knee injury. If he misses any games DeAngelo Williams gets a slight bump in value.

Tavon Austin left the game against the Cardinals with a left ankle injury after getting tackled after a 56-yard run on a reverse. He was able to walk off on his own power and looked to be moving well on the sidelines.

Antonio Cromartie sustained a head injury in the win over the Raiders, but he played the entire game, so it’s unclear when the injury occurred.

Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright has been diagnosed with a broken foot, and looks like he’ll miss the playoffs. Wright is an every-down player and has been playing well. Malcolm Smith should take his place in the starting lineup.
