Indians place Alonso on family emergency list

Cleveland Indians first baseman Yonder Alonso will miss at least three games after being placed on the family medical emergency list on Friday.

Major League Baseball rules require Alonso to miss at least three days and a maximum of seven.

Cleveland activated outfielder Tyler Naquin (left hamstring) off the disabled list in a corresponding move.

The Indians were preparing to option outfielder Greg Allen to Triple-A Columbus prior to Alonso's situation arising.

"We wanted to give (Alonso) a couple days to take care of what he needs to," Francona told reporters, "but I told Greg he would stay here with us so he kind of knows the situation."

Alonso, 31, is batting .248 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs in 65 games. Francona didn't divulge the nature of his family emergency.

Naquin, 27, is hitting .333 with two homers and 11 RBIs. He injured the hamstring while running the bases against the Kansas City Royals on May 11.

Allen, 25, has a .206 average with one homer and three RBIs.
