Indiana women's basketball lands top 10 rankings in national preseason polls

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana women's basketball is ranked No. 9 in the preseason Associated Press Poll and the USA Today coaches poll.

The Hoosiers graduated Grace Berger, but bring back the other four starters including All-American Mackenzie Holmes that helped them earn the Big Ten regular season championship and first No. 1 seed for the NCAA tournament in program history.

Indiana has appeared in 75 straight AP top 25 polls and 42 consecutive coaches poll going back to the 2019-20 season. It has appeared in the preseason rankings for the AP in five straight seasons and this is the fourth straight year it has appeared in the preseason coaches poll.

The Big Ten had three teams in the top 10 in both polls — Iowa was ranked No. 3 in both while Ohio State was ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll and No. 7 in the coaches poll. Maryland (No. 14 AP, No. 11 coaches), Illinois (No. 23 AP) and Michigan (No. 25 coaches) also were ranked.

Indiana's ranked opponents this year also includes Stanford (No. 15 AP, No. 13 coaches) and Tennessee (No. 11 AP, No. 12 coaches).

The Hoosiers open the season with a game against Northwood on Nov. 1 at Assembly Hall.
