Ida, Bedford, Whiteford, Airport, Mason log girls basketball victories

PETERSBURG – Summerfield’s girls basketball team had no answer for Jessica Schrader Tuesday night.

The Ida junior poured in a career-high 32 points to lead the Blue Streaks to a 51-42 victory. She was unstoppable in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points to help Ida extend a seven-point lead heading into the final period.

“Jessica Schrader was lights out and putting Ida on her back,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moodey said. “She was money. It was impressive.”

Reese Hennessey added 10 points for the Blue Streaks (15-6).

Mia Miller (14), Jaeli Jones (12) and Mayley Mannebach (10) all scored in double figures for 12-10 Summerfield.

“I got to see some good things tonight and some things we have to fix in a hurry before districts,” Moody said.

Summerfield took the junior varsity game 54-45 to finish its season at 18-2.

Bedford 37, Ann Arbor Pioneer 32

TEMPERANCE – There will be no sharing for Bedford.

The Mules wrapped up an outright Southeastern Conference Red championship. It is their second straight league title after sharing the crown with Saline last season.

Payton Pudlowski led the way with 16 points, including 10 in the second quarter when Bedford outscored its guest 13-5.

Whiteford 51, Dundee 23

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford used great defense to clinch at winning season at 12-9.

The Bobcats held Dundee to five points or less in each of the first three quarters.

“Played fantastic pressure defense from the opening tip,” Whiteford coach Nick Brillhart said.

Shay Alexander hit a career high 14 points for Whiteford while Brooklyn Mills added nine points. Annabelle Gapp logged 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Airport 54, Allen Park Cabrini 44

ALLEN PARK – Olivia Gratz scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in the second half, including 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, to lead an Airport comeback.

Airport trailed 31-25 at halftime, but gave up just 13 points in the second half.

“Coach Luke Baker made some nice adjustments for us at half and we had a much better 16 minutes,” Airport coach Darrell Mossburg said. “Our guard play was better we were able to create some transition buckets and we got to the free throw line a lot.”

Brenna Baker hit a pair if important 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 points for the 14-7 Jets.

Erie Mason 57, Greenhills 23

ERIE – Erie Mason continued its strong finish, winning for the fourth time in its last five games.

The only loss in that string was an eight-point setback against state-ranked Morenci.

“We started out this game very strong,” Mason coach Josh Sweigert said. “We had great energy on defense which helped us get our offense going. We jumped out to a lead in the first quarter 18-4 and would increase that lead to 31-10 at halftime.”

Audrey Trainor and Zoie Stubleski scored 14 points each for the 9-12 Eagles and Stubleski grabbed 8 rebounds.

Ypsilanti Lincoln 55, Monroe 48

MONROE – Monroe fought back after falling into an early 10-point hole to tie the game, but never was able to take the lead.

“Some possessions we moved it well for an open look and some looked a little sloppy, but still I think we have unlimited potential and six wins does not do it justice how good our team is,” Monroe coach Trent Moody said.

Sophia Bussell hit seven 3-points and scored 26 points for the 6-14 Trojans.

Adrian 39, Milan 34

MILAN – Milan kept fighting back after falling behind 16-6 in the opening quarter, but could not complete the comeback.

“Outstanding effort,” Milan coach Robert Carlson said. “Missed free throws and some jumpers that just weren’t falling. Great game from Adrian.”

Malea Wourman scored 14 points for 5-16 Milan.
