The Ice Bowl was a game filled with unforgettable photos. And we found even more.

The Ice Bowl produced some of the most iconic images in NFL history — but there are many more photos from the game that have never been published.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette has newly digitized thousands of Green Bay Packers photos from its archives, and many were from the famous Ice Bowl, the NFL championship game on Dec. 31, 1967, between the Packers and the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field. It remains officially the coldest game in NFL history, with a temperature of 13 below zero and wind chill of 48 below.

The game, which the Packers won 21-17 on Bart Starr's quarterback sneak on Green Bay's final possession, is the most famous in the team's history, if not NFL history. It was legendary coach Vince Lombardi's last NFL championship and his last game at Lambeau Field. And it was the last time the Packers would win an NFL championship for 29 seasons.

Photographers that day battled against the elements to capture their images. Cameras froze, film froze, photographers froze. But they were successful. Many of the photos digitized by former Press-Gazette photographer Sammy Madar have not been seen in decades, if ever. Thanks to those efforts, photos pulled from file cabinets and boxes in the Press-Gazette basement are now online for Packers fans to view for years to come.
