IAC Soccer Finals: Watkins Glen, Trumansburg, Lansing, Southern Cayuga win titles

A repeat title for the reigning Section 4 Class C champion Watkins Glen girls capped a quadruple-header of Interscholastic Athletic Conference soccer championship games Saturday at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden.

The Lake Hawks beat Marathon 3-2 in the Small School final.

Elsewhere:

  • In the girls Large School final, Trumansburg was a 2-0 winner over Lansing.

  • Lansing's boys were a 1-0 overtime winner over Trumansburg in the Large School final.

  • Southern Cayuga cruised to an 8-0 win over Tioga for a second consecutive boys Small School title.

Girls Small School Final

Skye Honrath's third goal of the game came with just over seven minutes to go and broke a 2-2 tie for Watkins Glen. Ava Kelly delivered the assist as the Lake Hawks improved to 13-1.

"I'm proud of the team that on a night where we didn't play our best we were able to come away with the win for the league championship," Watkins Glen coach Scott Morse said. "Marathon definitely showed up ready to compete and it was a hard-fought game.

"It's always nice to win the league and I'm truly happy for the girls. They work hard and are so talented, in addition to being really great people. Now we get back to work and get ready for sectionals."

Marathon's Abby Ensign scored on a penalty kick to knot the score at 2-2 with just under 14 minutes remaining.

Addie Oram gave Marathon a 1-0 lead with 25 minutes left in the opening half. Honrath's second goal with 30:50 to play gave Watkins Glen the lead.

Lilly Ameigh had seven saves for Watkins Glen.

Girls Large School Final

Allison Denmark's goal with 12:27 left broke a scoreless tie and the Blue Raiders went on to the victory.

Amara Landon added an insurance goal for Trumansburg with 9:17 left off a Denmark corner kick.

Boys Large School Final

Rowan Fox scored early in overtime to give Lansing the victory against Trumansburg.

It was the second IAC championship in three seasons for Lansing.

Boys Small School Final

Southern Cayuga scored five goals in the opening half, including three from Parker Cullen, who finished with four goals in the contest.
