The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced Tuesday that Husky Stadium will host all six football state championship games for the 2023 season.

If North Kitsap's football team returns to the Class 2A state title game in 2023, the Vikings will get a chance to play in one of college football's top venues.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association's Executive Board approved Husky Stadium to host all six state championship football games for the 2023 season, the association announced Tuesday. The title games will be spread over two days — Dec. 1-2 — with 1B, 1A and 3A competing on Friday and 2B, 2A and 4A competing on Saturday.

The venue and format were approved on a one-year trial basis.

“We are thankful to the University of Washington Athletics leadership team for their continued support and allowing students to make lifelong memories at a world-class facility,” WIAA Executive Director Mick Hoffman said. “We are hopeful that this format will provide a positive experience for the schools involved and will be embraced by the Washington football community.”

Seattle previously hosted the state football championships at the Kingdome from 1977-1994, South Kitsap played in 3A title game in 1994, topping Walla Walla 15-10.

The titles games moved to the Tacoma Dome from 1995-2018 before relocating to multiple Pierce County high school stadiums in 2018. Last fall, North Kitsap faced Lynden in the 2A title game at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. The Vikings fell to the Lions 31-24.
