NHL schedule update: Hurricanes-Rangers second-round playoff series dates released

The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers are meeting in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second time in three seasons, beginning Sunday at 4 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Following the conclusion of Game 7 between the Bruins and Maple Leafs on Saturday night — the Bruins winning Game 7 in overtime — the National Hockey League announced the second-round days and times through Game 4 of each of the two Eastern Conference series.

After Sunday’s Game 1 between the President’s Trophy-winning Rangers and division rival Hurricanes, the teams will meet again Tuesday, May 7 in New York.

Games 3 and 4 will be in Raleigh, with Game 3 set for Thursday night, May 9, and Game 4 on Saturday, May 11. Start times for Games 2, 3 and 4 are yet to be determined.

Should Game 5 be necessary, the Canes and Rangers would play that game at Madison Square Garden in New York on Monday, May 13. A potential Game 6 would be on Thursday, May 16 at PNC Arena in Raleigh, with a potential Game 7 back in New York on Saturday, May 18.

The Boston-Florida second-round series will begin Monday, May 6, in Sunrise, Florida. Game 2 of that series is Wednesday, May 8. Games 3 and 4 between the Bruins and Panthers will be in Boston on Friday, May 10 and Sunday, May 12.

The Canes and Rangers played three times in the regular season, with the Rangers winning two of the meetings and the Canes one. On Nov. 2, 2023, the Rangers won, 2-1. The Hurricanes found their offense and returned the favor on Jan. 2 in a 6-1 win. The Rangers won the rubber match in a goaltending duel on March 12, 1-0.
