Hurricanes flip St. Thomas Aquinas running back Jordan Lyle from Ohio State, add transfer center Zach Carpenter

The Miami Hurricanes flipped their second Ohio State commit in the 2024 class on Monday night.

Miami swayed St. Thomas Aquinas four-star running back Jordan Lyle to back off his commitment to the Buckeyes and pick UM instead. Lyle announced his commitment on social media. Miami also picked up a commitment from Indiana center Zach Carpenter.

Lyle, who is listed as the No. 11 running back and No. 145 player in the 2024 class in 247Sports’ composite ranking, had been committed to Ohio State since April 29. He joins five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott in flipping from OSU to Miami in the 2024 class.

Lyle has starred for the Raiders this season. A South Florida Sun Sentinel Super 11 pick, Lyle has 1,259 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on 113 carries in 14 games this season.

Lyle is the fourth player in St. Thomas’ 2024 class to commit to Miami, joining wide receiver Chance Robinson and defensive backs Ryan Mack and Romanas “OJ” Frederique Jr.

Last year, the Hurricanes secured a commitment from Mark Fletcher Jr., a star Broward County running back who had been committed to Ohio State. Fletcher had a strong freshman year at UM, notching 512 yards and five scores on 103 carries this season.

Carpenter, who is listed at 6 foot 5 and 295 pounds, comes to UM to fill a spot vacated by Matt Lee, who left for the NFL draft after one season with the Hurricanes.

Carpenter played five seasons with the Hoosiers and at Michigan, redshirting as a freshman. He has started 25 games in the past three seasons. Pro Football Focus gave Carpenter a 61.0 run-blocking grade and a 71.2 pass-blocking grade in 2023.
