Hurricanes defensive end Akheem Mesidor out for the season

MIAMI GARDENS — The Hurricanes will be without another key defensive lineman for the remainder of the season.

Fourth-year junior Akheem Mesidor will miss the rest of the year with an undisclosed injury, Miami coach Mario Cristobal said after UM’s win on Saturday.

Mesidor played in two games this season. He had five tackles and one sack.

Mesidor suffered the apparent foot injury in the Texas A&M game on Sept. 9. Mesidor also dealt with a foot injury last season. He played in 11 games last year and had 38 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

Mesidor is the second Miami defensive end to suffer a season-ending injury. Cristobal said Monday that sophomore Nyjalik Kelly will also likely miss the remainder of the season.

Despite Mesidor and Kelly being out, the Hurricanes have gotten solid defensive line play. Freshman Rueben Bain Jr. had two sacks against Clemson and two more against Virginia on Saturday. He has 26 tackles and 6.5 sacks this year. Veteran Jahfari Harvey had nine tackles and half a tackle for loss against UVA.
