All-Huron League teams picked for basketball, competitive cheer

FLAT ROCK – Graham Junge and Tim Murphy of 14-0 league champion Flat Rock lead the All-Huron League boys basketball team selected by league coaches.

Also making the first team were Ian Foster and Buddy Snodgrass of St. Mary Catholic Central, Kyle Kantola and Chad Martin of New Boston Huron, Cooper Nye of Airport, Evan Gallimore of Riverview and Dominic Cappellino of Grosse Ile.

The second team includes Alex Gillum and Odin Nemeth of Flat Rock, Brady Hines and Drew Vuich of SMCC, Nate Morse and Zennon Grant of Huron, Colin Nowak of Airport, Jackson Raasch of Milan and Trey Oldenburg of Jefferson.

Rocco Breslin of Flat Rock, Trent Zachel of SMCC, Alex Tejeda-Walker of Huron, Brett Moore of Airport, Gabe Gelso of Jefferson and Landon Talladay of Milan received honorable mention.

Three Jets honored

NEWPORT – Jocelyn Klemen, Sydney Linn and Rylie Armstrong of Airport have named to the All-Huron League team selected by the league coaches.

Also making the first team were Haylee Smith and Carleigh Newman of Flat Rock along with Alyssa Masserant of Jefferson and Kaila Davis of New Boston Huron.

The second team includes Breanna Mulvin, Delanie Joseph and Faith Wieckowski of Airport, Kyley Barger, Savannah Bodart and Elli Cerroni of Flat Rock, Ella Simpson and Cameran Carter of Jefferson and Stella Hendley of Huron.

Ayva Hunger, Ryleigh Dicks and Kasidy Adams of Airport, Lissette Rosado, Keily Dial and Maya Given of Flat Rock, Katie Powell and Lindsay Masserant of Jefferson and Brooke Spears of Huron received honorable mention.

GENERAL

Milan’s Hull picked

MILAN – Milan’s Robert Hull has been named Athletic Director of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association for the 2023-24 school year.

Hull, the AD at Milan for five years, will be presented the award in Traverse City on March 16 at the annual MIAAA Mid-Winter Conference.

Hull is an Eastern Michigan graduate who worked in the athletic department as a football manager and in media relations during his time in Ypsilanti. He went on to become the Student Body President of Athletics before joining the community relations and camps department for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Before coming to Milan, he was the assistant AD at Holt, varsity girls and boys tennis coach at Williamston and AD at Byron.

“Robert’s commitment to equality among sports is exemplary,” said Milan superintendent Bryan Girbach. “He genuinely values and supports all sports, recognizing the importance of each in contributing to the overall success and spirit of our athletic program. His inclusive mindset has created an environment where every athlete feels valued and essential to the success of the entire athletic community.”
