HS Roundup: West M softball ends four-decade title drought

NEW LEXINGTON — West Muskingum won its first Muskingum Valley League softball title since 1980 with a 15-7 victory over host New Lexington on Friday.

Lydiah Huey belted a pair of home runs among her three hits, knocked in four runs and scored three times and Cadence Puckett doubled twice, singled and brought in four runs to pace the Tornado attack.

Addy Antonetz swatted two doubles, Gabby Hammer and Peyton Brown each doubled and singled, and Kadie Bare hit a double with two RBIs for West M (15-4, 12-3), which had 16 hits.

Puckett earned the complete game win, allowing seven runs on 12 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Abby Wilson gave up nine runs, five earned, on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings in taking the loss for New Lex (8-14, 5-11). She also went 4-for-4 with two triples, Kim Kellogg added three hits, Kylie Fink had a double, a single and three RBIs, and Jayden Allen singled with two RBIs.

John Glenn 7, Philo 0: Alivia Boothe hit a solo home run, double and single and Addi Babcock added a 4-for-4 effort with a double and three RBIs, as the host Muskies (19-3, 14-2) capped off a MVL Big School Division title.

Sarah Wayne and Ryann Snider each had two hits and winning pitcher Sydney Marshall fanned seven, walked four and scattered five hits in the complete game.

Caitlin Rose and Karlee Southall had two hits apiece and Kyleigh McGraw went the distance, giving up 15 hits and fanning three for the Electrics (15-8, 11-5).

Crooksville 8, Meadowbrook 6: Jaelynn Nelson had two doubles among her three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored and Brynn Lundell homered, doubled, knocked in two runs and scored twice to lead a high-powered Ceramic attack.

Sonni Nelson, Gracie Peck, Mylin Driggs and Madison Goodin also had two hits each and Lexi Saffle earned the win, allowing four runs on five hits for Crooksville (7-11, 5-10). Peck also pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits.

Sommer Ginn went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and Maddie May added two hits for the Colts (11-11, 8-8), while Ginn suffered the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits in four innings.

Dover 10, Tri-Valley 0 (6 inn.): The Scotties (15-7) were held to three hits in a loss to the Crimson Tornadoes.

Keyona Murphy doubled, Olivia Rapol and Falon Wolford each singled and Belle Baughman gave up five runs on seven hits in four innings to take the loss.

Baseball

New Lexington 6, West Muskingum 3: Bentley Hanson's two-run double capped a four-run sixth, as the host Panthers (13-6, 11-5) clinched a share of the MVL Small School title by topping the Tornadoes (5-13, 5-10).

Issac McGill added a double, a single and a RBI and Clay Miller hit a RBI single in the sixth for the winners, while McGill struck out 13 and allowed one run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.

Wes Houston and Kaiden Fleming each doubled with a RBI, Sam Wiseman had a single with a RBI and Houston struck out 12, scattered seven hits and walked two in the complete game loss.

Rosecrans 4, Maysville 3: Malakai Clark's two-run single highlighted a four-run first, as the Bishops (8-5) held off the Panthers (2-15) at Gant Stadium.

Hayden Perdue added a RBI single and Clark, who had two hits, scored on a balk in the first.

Weston Hartman struck out seven, gave up six hits and walked six in six innings to earn the win, and Brendan Bernath had two hits for Rosecrans.

Ryan Parmer had two of the Panthers' six hits and Tre Butcher had a single and a RBI for Maysville, while Todd Saxton went the distance in the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Crooksville 2, Meadowbrook 1: Brady Cottrell singled home Dennis in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Ceramics a walk-off win against Colts in Small School play.

Cottrell and Jace Thompson, who had the other RBI, had two hits apiece for the Crooksville offense, and winning pitcher Wyatt Hillis fanned seven, scattered five hits and walked two in a complete game.

Kolton St. Clair had two of Meadowbrook's five hits, Kade Winnett knocked in the lone run, and Gunner Davis went the distance in the loss, allowing five hits, striking out five and walking two.

Philo 6, John Glenn 5: Jake Howell hammered a three-run home run, as the Electrics (10-11, 8-8) fended off the Muskies' rally in a MVL win.

Howell's homer in the sixth made it 6-2, but John Glenn (6-14, 4-11) scored three in the seventh, including a two-run single by Noah Winland, but came up short.

Clayton Peterson earned the victory, allowing five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in 6 1/3 innings, Jack Lincicome got the final two outs for the save.

Howell had four RBIs, Griffin Wells added a single and a RBI and Talon Preston doubled for the Philo offense.

Colt Emerson had a pair of doubles and two RBIs and Gunner Fox took the loss in relief, allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in two innings.

Granville 13, Zanesville 0 (5 inn.): Mikey Johnson had the Blue Devils' only hit in a loss to the Blue Aces.

Ezra Kurek and Jakob Culver each knocked in three runs and Alex Gregory tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts in a complete game win.

Caleb Underwood suffered the loss, allowing 11 runs, two earned, on two hits and nine walks in 2 1/3 innings.
