9-year-old pens heartfelt thanks to Dodgers stars for inspiring him to keep playing baseball
Every now and then we need a reminder that baseball isn’t just a grown man’s game or a business where the rich get richer.
It’s a kid’s game first and foremost, and nothing drives that home better than the heartfelt letter a nine-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers fan named Colt wrote to two of his favorite players, Clayton Kershaw and Cody Bellinger.
Colt simply wanted to say thank you to the Dodgers’ stars for inspiring him to continue playing baseball.
Encouraging messages
According to Cut 4, Colt was considering taking a break from baseball this summer, and possibly not returning. Then he saw recorded messages from Kershaw and Bellinger were posted on the Dodgers Foundation’s Instagram page on Wednesday and changed his mind.
The messages were recorded as part of ESPN and Aspen Institute's 'Don't Retire, Kid' initiative, which is aimed at increasing youth sports participation.
After listening to the Dodgers’ dynamic duo talk about the lessons they learned, the friends they made and the memories playing youth baseball created, Cole quickly rediscovered his desire to play.
Several others current and former athletes have lent their voice to the project, including Kobe Bryant.
Thanks to the Dodgers' superstars, it's helped at least one kid change his mind. Here's hoping many more will be similarly inspired to keep playing whatever sport or sports he or she enjoys.
