Homecoming: Taylor County hire former NFC assistant coach, Bulldog alumni as new head football coach
A familiar face is returning to the sidelines at Taylor County High School.
Bulldog alumni and former North Florida Christian assistant coach Jesse Braswell is the new head football coach at Taylor County. He takes over for Eddie Metcalf, who posted a 22-26 record in five seasons as the head coach at Taylor County.
Taylor County principal Heather McCoy confirmed to the Democrat that Braswell is the choice to lead the Bulldogs forward and his hiring can be made official following the school districts next board meeting on Jan. 30.
McCoy said that Braswell will be meeting with the football team Thursday morning to discuss his vision for the program. Described as a “firecracker” by McCoy, the Taylor County principal said Braswell is ambitious in his plans for the team.
Spending the last six years in Georgia, working at North Forsyth High School as a director of sports performance, Braswell brings a near decades worth of assistant coaching experience into his first role as a head coach.
A part of NFC's 2018 state title-winning coaching staff, Braswell will be tasked with rebuilding Taylor County football back into an elite program, taking over a team that went 2-8 in 2023.
With the FHSAA reclassifying programs throughout the state with it's new classification systems, Taylor County has a clean slate with a first-time head coach as it enters another new era of Florida high school football.
