Hip issue caused guard Phil Haynes’ placement on the injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks placed guard Phil Haynes on the injured reserve just two days after he made the initial 53-man roster. The exact nature of his injury was not revealed in the press release, but coach Pete Carroll provided an update during his Monday press conference.

“Phil’s got a hip issue that we’re concerned about and we’ve got to see how it goes here, so he starts the season on IR,” Carroll told reporters. “It’s unfortunate for him because he really wants to play bad and he’s a good kid and he’s going to be a good player too, so we’ll just have to wait it out now.”

Because Haynes was on the active roster for two days, he is eligible to return later this season.
