Hillsdale boys track and field finishes second at the LCAA championships

HILLSDALE — While Hillsdale prepared for their MITCA Team state meet this weekend at Clare High School, the Hornets finished up their league season at Ida High School with the LCAA championship meet.

It was a meet for many Hornet athletes to get in experience before preparing for the final leg of championship season. Some athletes and relay teams rested up for the weekend state championship. The Hillsdale boys team still took runner-up honors at the meet. Hillsdale girls track ended the day in eighth overall.

Hillsdale senior Hunter Wilson walked away with the 200-meter conference crown after running a new PR time of 22.36 seconds to take first. Teammates Winn Tangprapa and Talon Hugenell also had PR times in this event with times of 26.15 and 28.20.

In the girls 4x100 relay, the team of Jayce Graham, Annemarie Moore, Amelia Dietz and Megan Kast won the LCAA conference title with a time of 50.93. The regional championship team has their eyes set on helping their team at MITCA this Saturday and then competing for all-state honors the following weekend.

The boys 300 hurdles saw two Hornets finish first and second. Freshman Evan Towne took first and the LCAA championship meet title with a time of 44.10 seconds. Kaden Sorrell took second with a time of 44.48.

The boys 100-meter dash saw senior Stephen Petersen chase down a PR time of 11.60 for seventh overall. Freshman Cam Arnold placed 10th with a time of 11.82, a PR. Jonathan Tomasello had a PR time of 12.03 to take 12th.

The girls 100-meter dash saw sophomore Charis Winn take ninth with a PR time of 13.86. Freshman Alana O'Brien also had a PR, a time of 14.44.

Win took eighth in the girls 200 with a time of 30.05. In the girls 400-meter dash, freshman Kiely Kroa took fifth with a time of 1:07.50.

The boys 400-meter results saw sophomore Riley Slabaugh earn a new PR time of 57.80 to take 10th. Tangprapa had a PR time of 1:00.18.

The boys 800-meter dash saw freshman Logan Youngman take fifth with a PR time of 2:09.79. Youngman took fifth in the boys 1,600 with a time of 4:50.09. Senior Nolan Grant ran the 1,600 and took second with a time of 4:39.91.

The girls 800 dash saw junior Cailey VanZant take seventh with a time of 2:46.10. Junior Chloe Stalhood took fourth in the girls 1,600 with a time of 5:58.32. Freshman Claire Flannery took 10th with a time of 6:57.40.

The girls 100 hurdles saw junior Meredith Bowles take fifth overall with a new PR time of 17.70. Senior Brice VanZant ran the 110 boys hurdles and took second with a new PR time of 15.60.

The Hornet boys team of freshmen Nolan Francis, Carsen Payne and Brody Arnold, along with sophomore Jonathan Tomasello, ran the 4x100 for Hillsdale, taking fifth with a time of 47.94. The 4x200 relay team of Dawson Adams, Brayden Taylor, Miles Brown and Dominick Coke took third with a time of 1:33.98.

In boys shot put, junior John Petersen took second place with a new PR throw of 44-feet, 6 inches. Senior Ethan Amburgey took third with a throw of 40-feet, 4 inches. Sophomore Joshua Herring took 10th with a throw of 36-feet. Petersen took fourth in discus with a throw of 113-feet.

In girls shot put, Alyssa Frank had a new PR throw of 23-feet, 8 inches. In discus, senior Emma Collison took 10th with a throw of 82-feet, 8 inches.

In boys high jump, sophomore Ashton Thornsbury had a final jump height of 5-feet, 8 inches. Freshman Brookes Beckman took third on tiebreaker but had a new PR of 5-feet, 8 inches. Sophomore Robert Garcia had the same jump height and took sixth.

In girls pole vault, senior Kelah Hodge took second with a clearance height of 9-feet. In boys pole vault, senior Declan Flannery had a clearance height of 11-feet, 6 inches to take fourth. Carter Myers took sixth with a height of 10-feet. Joshua Herring took ninth with a height of 9-feet, 6 inches.

In girls long jump, junior Natalia Galindo Gabande took fourth with a jump of 15-feet, 3 1/2 inches. The boys long jump event saw Robert Garcia earn a new PR jump of 19-feet, 1 inch to take sixth. Taking 10th was Jonathan Tomasello with a jump of 18-feet, 1 1/2 inches.
