High school sports roundup (Jan. 12)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Jan. 12.

Girls basketball

Chesapeake-AA 44, Crofton 43: With the Cougars down one in the final seconds, Maggie Lawrence came up with a steal and was fouled while launching a half-court shot. She hit her first two free throws to give Cheapeake the win. Lawrence finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Ava Arruda led the win with 10 points. Kasey Slade finished with eight points, nine rebounds, seven steals and four blocks. Vanessa Carmichael had a game-high 22 points for Crofton.

South River 54, Old Mill 21: Skylar Woodyard had an all-around strong night with 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals. Karlee Hawkins added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Meade 55, Arundel 32: Naomi Williams scored 18 points to lead the visiting Mustangs over the Wildcats. Meade opened with a 12-4 run in the first quarter.

Havre de Grace 45, Joppatowne 19: Junior Savannah Lawrence shot a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the 3-point arc, leading the Warriors with 16 points. Natalie Burton added nine points with three assists. Azareya Whiting finished with eight points, six steals and three assists.

Hereford 66, Dundalk 11: The Bulls raced out to a 25-1 lead after one quarter. Gabby Nieberlein scored 10 of her 12 points in the opening frame. Lauren Kraft finished with a game-high 19 points.
