High school sports roundup (Feb. 5)

Here's a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Feb. 5.

Boys basketball

Fallston 65, Bel Air 59: The visiting Cougars jumped out to a 23-9 lead before holding off the Bobcats' late rally. Max Rueckert led Fallston with 22 points and four assists. Oliver Rueckert chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Paul Kvech added four blocks and nine rebounds and sunk a clutch 3-pointer in the final minute.

Patterson Mill 73, Harford Tech 58: Only up two after the first quarter, the Huskies slowly pulled away from the Cobras. Drew Pape led the win 25 points. James Hammond backed him with 12 and Collin Luddy added 11.

Glen Burnie 69, Owings Mills 48: Greg Pittman led all scorers with 21 points to lead the Gophers (10-7) to the win. Eric Daniels and Braedon Buchanan each added 11 points.

South River 65, Broadneck 49: Liam Barney paced the Seahawks with 27 points. Jaden McDuffie added 19 and Jamie Finn followed with 12. Jordan Brown scored 15 points for Broadneck.

Centennial 57, Winters Mill 32: The Eagles (10-6) built a 15-point halftime lead and didn't look back as Josh Frazier scored a game-high 23 points. Charlie Crabtree added 10.

Glenelg 71, Marriotts Ridge 53: Christian Chen erupted for a season-high 30 points for the Gladiators (5-11, 4-9 Howard County), scoring all of them in the final three quarters. Ty Jenkins chipped in 13. For Marriotts Ridge (9-10, 5-8), Jack Bonner had 14 points, while Aidan Houck added 10.

Mt. Hebron 59, Reservoir 48: The Vikings (9-6, 7-5 Howard County) won their second straight. Ezra Yauger had 13 points, including four 3-pointers, while Kenny Akinlosotu added 12. For Reservoir (2-14, 2-13), Will Snoots had 11 points and Phoenix Eggleston added 10.

Long Reach 73, Wilde Lake 62: The Lightning (17-1, 11-1 Howard County) won their 14th straight game as Jayden Saunders and RJ Barnes each led the way with 24 points. Junior Nunez added 13. For Wilde Lake (9-10, 8-6) Noah Brazil had 18 points.

River Hill 74, Howard 63: The Hawks (16-2, 12-1 Howard Howard County) was led by Soma Unegbu (21 points) and Braden Sauritch (20). Aiden Igwebe added 11 as the Hawks built an eight-point halftime lead. For Howard (10-7, 7-6), Griffin Garner scored 27 points.

Parkville 93, Aberdeen 60: A 22-8 second quarter built separation for the Knights. Cam Alexander led the win with 25 points. Kyliek Howard and Anthony Council each added 19 points. Tiras Wilkerson chipped in 16.

Manchester Valley 46, Western Tech 44: Owen Caine made the winning basket with 15 seconds left in the game as the Mavericks edged out the Wolverines. Carter Strohman led all scorers with 19 points and Will Cuneo pitched in 15 points in the win.

South Carroll 58, Francis Scott Key 43: Benson Sommerfeldt posted a double-double to lead the Cavaliers with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Girls basketball

Wilde Lake 33, Long Reach 30: The Wildecats (1-15, 1-14 Howard County) earned their first win of the season led by 13 points from Quinn Corkeron and Deja Williams. Corkeron drilled four 3-pointers, while Williams started out strong with six first-quarter points. For Long Reach (2-13, 2-10), Maxynne Macboham and Jaiden Bryant each had six points.

Glenelg 47, Marriotts Ridge 29: Maria Garbis scored 16 points to lead the Gladiators (6-11, 4-8 Howard County) in the win. For Marriotts Ridge (2-14, 2-13), Lamees Bazzi had nine points.

Southern 59, Western Tech 13: Ava Wooster led all scores with 22 points and added 10 rebounds in the win. Presley Marks and Huntyr Marks each added eight points. Alissa Jacks added six points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. Amaya Pulley scored seven for Western Tech.

St. Frances 67, St. Mary's 59: The Saints led by one going into the fourth quarter but couldn't hold off St. Frances late. Bailey Harris led St. Mary's with 21 points. Baily Walden added 18 points and Alexandre Vandiver finished with 17.

South Carroll 55, Century 46: In the loss, Harli Hamlett finished with 17 points and Raegan Edwards added 12 for the Knights.

North Harford 44, C. Milton Wright 40: Emily Signor finished with a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds as the Hawks edged out the Mustangs. Caroline Nicholson finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Lauren Nicholson added seven points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Sam Wolfkill had 13 points for the Mustangs.
