High School Roundup: Scores and recaps from Tuesday's basketball games across RI

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Division I

Westerly 48, Ponaganset 47

The Bulldogs started fast, scoring 19 in the opening quarter, were up by 6 at the break, and withstood the Chieftains' comeback attempt (24 points) in the second half. Riley Peloquin led Westerly (4-3) with 19 points, and Sydney Haik added 11. For the Chieftains (4-2), Jaina Yekelchik scored a team-high 15 and Anastasia Nerney added 12.

La Salle 48, Classical 33

Grace Martone led all scorers with 21 points — 17 in the second half — and the Rams notched their sixth league win of the season. For the Purple (1-5), Shanell Smith Akpan scored a team-high 18 points in the loss.

Barrington 60, Scituate 30

The Eagles cruised to their fifth league win on Tuesday. Isys Dunphy netted a team-high 16 points and 15 rebounds and Maddie Gill added 12 points in the victory. For the Spartans (1-4), Ava Gregory scored a team-high 9 points.

North Kingstown 67, East Providence 33

The high-powered Skippers, who entered the game with a 5-1 record, jumped out to a 12-0 lead, extended that to 39-13 by halftime and cruised to the victory. Jaelyn Holmes led the way with 19 points and Shea Kalin contributed 12. Harmonie McDowell had 11 points for the Townies, who fall to 1-6.

Portsmouth 51, Rogers 18

Ava Moore led the Patriots (5-2) with 17 points, 3 assists and 6 steals, Olivia Durant added 13 points and Annie Hurd had 5 blocks in the victory. For the Vikings (0-6), Tameka Robertson scored a team-best 9 points in the loss.

Division II

Mount St. Charles 61, Prout 24

Addie Johnson finished with 13 points, Addie Stojanowski had 12 and Anya Dziun added 10 as the Mounties improved to 6-1. Beth Delsesto and Erin Young had 6 points apiece to lead the Crusaders, now 3-4.

Chariho 54, Smithfield 42

The combination of Keira Frias (17 points) and Emily Ballard (16) proved to be just enough as the Chargers upended the Sentinels. Chariho improves to 6-0. Annabelle Lally had 14 for Smithfield, which slips to 5-3.

Shea/Tolman 51, East Greenwich 35

The Pawtucket team, which led by only two points (21-19) at the half, pulled away after the break and won its sixth game in seven decisions. Shea/Tolman was led by Trinity Bork's 16 points and Tiyara Gonzalez's 12. Gabriela Jackson had 12 points for the Avengers, who fall to 1-5.

Moses Brown 68, Mt. Hope 44

Lauren Bousquet paced the Quakers with a game-high 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals for the first recorded triple-double in Moses Brown history. Jaelynn Perez added 14 points and 6 steals to keep the Quakers' record unblemished (7-0) in league play. For the Huskies (2-5), Elsa White had 12 points and Lily DaSilveira added 11 in the loss.

Division III

Burrillville 54, North Providence 49

Freshman Ava Ayotte poured in 27 points to lead all scorers and Grace Diallo added 14 as the Broncos rolled to their sixth win in eight games. Lusi Hagopian finished with 18 points and Riddhi Mistry was right behind with 17 for the Cougars, now 1-5.

Exeter-West Greenwich 5, Lincoln 46

Emma Mears paced the Scarlet Knights with 15 points, 2 rebounds and a pair of steals and teammate Ella Johnson added 13 points and 2 steals to improve EWG's record to 5-1 in league play. For the Lions, Lauren Cipriano scored a game-high 20 points and Taylor Valentin added 13. With the loss, Lincoln slips to 3-3.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Division II

Johnston 67, Hope 42

Despite a game-high 24 points by Hope's Dariel Encarnacion, the Panthers were able to pull off a convincing victory. Brandon Testa led the way with 20 points as Johnson was able to improve its record to a perfect 8-0. The Blue Wave fall to 1-7.
