HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sandwich boys hockey's offense stays hot

The Sandwich boys hockey team is firing on all cylinders over its last two games with 15 goals as they beat South Shore League opponent Abington 6-2 on Wednesday. Ty Creighton had two goals and two assists for the Blue Knights (12-2). Avery Richardson and Sean Corcoran each scored a goal, while Jack Connolly (one goal, one assist) and Chris Cardillo (one goal, two assists) each found the back of the net for Sandwich. Brayden Ramsey and Logan Munk each handed out two assists, while Harrison Delman chipped in one of his own.

Boys Hockey

Nantucket 6, D-Y/CCT/CCA 0: The Whalers (10-1) remained on fire with their tenth straight win as they beat the Dolphins (3-9-1).

Southeastern 8, Upper Cape 3: Seniors Ty Rebeiro and Zephyn Johnson, and feshman Tyler Dymtryck each had a goal in the effort for the Rams (3-9).

Nauset 3, Falmouth 1: The Warriors (10-1-1) have won nine of their last 10 games (one tie), while the Clippers (7-7) fall back to .500.

St. John Paul II 5, Monomoy/Mashpee 3: The Lions (4-8-1) picked up a win over the Sharks (1-7-2). Brady Meyer scored twice and dished out an assist, while Liam Monaghan and Jon Valiga each scored a goal and had two assists for three points for JPII. Andrew Crapo had two assists, Sean Willis chipped in a goal, and Brayden Short, Sebastain Tropeano and Bobby Lawson each handed out a helper.

Martha’s Vineyard 3, Barnstable 2: The Vineyarders (7-4-2) snapped a two game slide, while the Red Hawks (4-7-2) lost their fourth straight.

Girls Basketball

Upper Cape 48, Cape Tech 29: Alaina Hines led the way with 22 points for the Rams (8-2) seventh straight win, while Adryanna Turner added in 11 points. Gianna Lubash and Addison Sundby each had eight points for Cape Tech (5-8).

Mashpee 45, Monomoy 33: The Falcons (3-7) picked up their first win in over a month (Dec. 13) as they beat the Sharks (5-7).

Sturgis East 33, Rising Tide 24: The Storm (3-7) snapped a three-game slide with the win.

St. John Paul II 45, Bishop Stang 29: The Lions (10-3) have won five in a row and seven of their last eight games.

Boys Basketball

Upper Cape 57, Diman 37: The Rams (9-3) won back-to-back games as they held Diman to a season low of 37 points behind the defense of Patrick Acord, and Logan Patterson. Damin Travars had an all-around good game with 14 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Matt Nawoichik missed the first seven games of the season, but is back for healthy, and hit a 3-pointer buzzer beater as the time expired in the first half.

New Bedford 83, Dennis-Yarmouth 81: The Dolphins (6-5) came up just short with their first home loss of the season.

Sturgis East 60, Rising Tide 50: The Storm (2-9) picked up their second win of the season as they broke a four-game losing streak.

Norwell 75, Cape Cod Academy 26: The Seahawks fell to 0-11 on the season.

Monomoy 53, Mashpee 49: The Sharks (10-2) have won nine of their last 10 games and qualified for the MIAA Statement Tournament in the win over the Falcons (6-7).

Girls Hockey

D-Y/CCA/JPII 3, Sandwich 1: The Dolphins (2-8-1) won their second game of the season as they beat the Blue Knights (4-7-1). Freshman Kourtney David recorded a hat trick, while freshman goalie Sophie Curry played well in net with 46 saves.

Falmouth 8, Nantucket 0: The Clippers (11-1-1) have won eight of their last nine games (one tie), while the Whalers fall to 0-8.

Nauset 4, Barnstable 1: The Warriors (11-1-1) have won 10 of their last 11 games (one tie), while the Red Hawks dropped to 5-6.

Indoor Girls Track

Dennis-Yarmouth 79, Martha's Vineyard 21: The Dolphins finished the season 6-0 and won the Cape and Islands Dual Meet Championship.

Breanna Braham won the 55m (7.62), the 300m (42.88) and the long jump, while Olivia Pendleton was also a double winner in the Mile (5:47.1) and 1000m (3:25.1) for D-Y. Kerri Clark (8th grade) won the 600m (1:49.0) and qualified for the MIAA Division 5 Meet.

For the Vineyarders, Camille Brand won the high jump (5-2) and placed 2nd in the 300m (46.89), while Madison Mello won the shot put (31-10).

Boys Swimming and Diving

Sandwich 65, Norwell 33: Ryan Milligan led the Blue Knights as he finished first in the 50 Yard Freestyle (22.27, D2ST), and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley (1:50.50, D2ST) and the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:35.97, D2ST) Relay teams.

Dawson Milligan and Tyler Lippincott were on the winning 200 Yard Medley and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay teams. Samuel McIlvin won the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:22.69), while Hunter Morgan was on the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay

Martha's Vineyard 98, Nauset 72: The Vineyarders picked up the win over the Warriors and were led by the combination of senior Andrue Carr and sophomore Ronan Mullin.

Carr placed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:07.66), the 500 Yard Freestyle (6:04.08), and was on the winning 200 Yard Freestyle (1:43.01) and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:55.71) teams. Ronan Mullin won the 200 Yard IM (2:26.03), the 100 Yard Butterfly (59.49), and was also on the winning 200 Yard Freestyle and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams.

Simon Hammarlund won the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:17.93), while Kaua DeAssis and Emmett Silva were on the winning 200 Yard Freestyle and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams for Martha's Vineyard.

Nauset was led by Will Crowell, who placed first in the 50 Yard Freestyle (23.61, D2ST), the 100 Yard Freestyle (53.65), and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:54.81) team. Thomas Olean won the 100 Yard Backstroke, and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay team, while Tom Foley and Rai Michaud were also on the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay team.

Girls Swimming and Diving

Sandwich 85, Norwell 73: Emma Jakubicka led the way for the Blue Knight ashshe placed first in the 200 Yard IM (2:28.01), the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:05.21, SSEC), and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay (2:09.66) team.

Emma Moynihan won the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:23.22) and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay team, while Madelynn Keyes came in second place in the 1 mtr Diving, but score of 229.70 qualified for Division 2 States.

Paige Trepanier and Lexi Eastman were on the winning 200 Yard Medley and the 400 Yard Freestyle (4:49.04) Relay teams, while Charlotte Grant and Olivia Ring were also on the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team.

Nauset 92, Martha's Vineyard 62: The Warriors beat the Vineyarders behind the trio of Izzy Hardwicke, Nina Mako and Laura Kaser.

Hardwicke placed first in the 100 Yard Freestyle (59.69), the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:16.61, SSEC), and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley (2:07.75) and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:53.96) teams. Mako came in first in the 50 Yard Freestyle (28.64), 100 Yard Backstroke (1:09.41), and was on the winning 200 Yard Medley and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams. Kaser finished first in the 200 Yard IM (2:30.45), the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:08.17), and was on the winning 200 Yard Freestyle and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams.

Alera Michaud won the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:20.56), and was on the winning 200 Yard Freestyle and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams, while Erin E McFarland won the 500 Yard Freestyle (6:58.16). Isabel Colella was on the winning 200 Yard Medley and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams, while Lila Keeney was on the winning 200 Yard Medley and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay teams.
