HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Heroics lead Hanover softball to comeback win

Hanover heroics.

That's what it took for the Hawks softball team to pull out a 9-8 win over Pembroke on Wednesday.

Hanover (10-6) trailed 8-4 heading into the sixth before tying the game with 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman Abby Minasi drove home junior Kaelyn Chase with a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Chase finished 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and 3 RBIs.

Abby Hanna drove in 3 runs. McKenzie Foley and Erin Condon both had 2 hits. Freshman Talia Beer earned the win in the circle.

SOFTBALL

West Bridgewater 12, Tri-County 10: McKenzie Craig earned the win in the circle and drove in three runs. Amanda Jacques (2 runs), Olivia Razza (2 RBIs), Neala Boyd (2 RBIs) and Susanna Carriere (2 runs) all had three-hit days.

East Bridgewater 4, Cardinal Spellman 3: Maggie Schlossberg fanned 11 batters to earn the win for the Vikings (13-3) while adding an RBI double. Riley Egan and Em McNaught had 2 hits while Olivia Atkins and Mia Holmes each had RBI singles.

Silver Lake 5, Duxbury 4: The Lakers (16-1) staved off the upset attempt from the Dragons as Nina O'Neil drove in the winning run in the seventh inning. Bri Ghilardi struck out 13 to earn the win.

Marshfield 14, Whitman-Hanson 2: Sofia Blanco earned the win in the circle for the Rams (12-4) without allowing a walk. Graci Figueiredo and Sarah McIntyre both had 3 hits. Allison Larkin and Lauryn Meade both went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Panthers.

Archbishop Williams 16, Fontbonne 1: Shelby Parr struck out 11 over 5 innings to earn the win. Emma O'Neill (4-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs) and Monica Kelly (2-for-3, 3 runs, 3 RBIs) starred offensively.

Hingham 15, Plymouth North 4: Marissa Durette tripled in the loss.

Dartmouth 11, Brockton 1: The Boxers fall to 5-9.

Plymouth South 11, Scituate 7: The Panthers won the Patriot League game.

Milton Academy 14, Tabor 6: Nia Phillips went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs for the Mustangs (9-5) while Sophia Crowley was 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Nev Burton drove in 2 runs.

Blue Hills 15, South Shore Tech 10: In the loss, sophomore Tiana MacDonald went 3-for-3 with a triple and a double for the Vikings. Mia Bradshaw (3-for-4), Alexis Mitsiopoulos (1-for-4) and Sarah Walsh (1-for-3) all had home runs.

Southeastern 1, Greater New Bedford 0: Julie Chisholm tossed a 2-hitter with no walks and 14 strikeouts to lead the Hawks to the win. Bella Burke broke a scoreless tie with a sixth-inning home run.

North Quincy 12, Quincy 3: The Raiders won the Patriot League battle.

BASEBALL

Plymouth South 4, Scituate 2: Joe Rogan pitched six innings while striking out eight batters and adding a hit and an RBI at the plate for the Panthers (6-8). Nathan Ferry earned the save while also chipping in a hit and an RBI.

Xaverian 3, BC High 2 (8 inn.): The Hawks clinched the Catholic Conference title for the second consecutive year.

Norwell 10, Mashpee 4: Colin McCarthy pitched six innings of one-run ball to earn the win for the Clippers (12-5). Jamen Durka had 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

Archbishop Williams 8, Sharon 0: Greg Mayo threw a complete-game shutout to earn the win while Bryan Cahill went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and 5 RBIs for the Bishops (8-8).

Walpole 4, Milton 2: Owen McHugh pitched a complete game in the loss for the Wildcats (15-3). Scott Longo, Jimmy Fallon and KJ Beckett each doubled.

East Bridgewater 9, Carver 1: Mike Hauter (3 hits, walk), Jaden Lovell (2 hits, 4 RBIs) and Ryan Hunter (2 RBIs) led the way offensively for the Vikings. Sean Kenn earned the win with 3 shutout innings and 6 strikeouts while Devon Blair allowed 1 run over 3 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Hingham 11, Plymouth North 1 (6 inn.): The Harbormen (8-8) scored 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Jake Schulte pitched six innings and allowed two hits. He also drove in three runs.

Hanover 9, Pembroke 2: Gabe Knudsen struck out 11 batters to earn the win for the Hawks while Cole Hendrickson and John McDonald each had two hits.

Whitman-Hanson 19, Marshfield 9: The Panthers tallied 22 hits in the win as Ryan Carroll (3 hits), Cam Beltramini (3 RBIs), Brandon Craven (3-for-3, 2 RBIs), Matt Phelps (3 RBIs), Zach Nye (4-for-5, 3 RBIs) and Trevor Googins (3-for-3, 4 RBIs) all starred.

Duxbury 14, Silver Lake 9: Nick Ayres and Gavin Wallace both drove in three runs for the Dragons (12-6). Silver Lake's Nicky Peterson was 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs.

Braintree 6, Needham 1: Dan Surette struck out 13 batters in the win while Jack Fitzgerald blasted a 2-run home run for the Wamps.

Dartmouth 10, Brockton 4: The Boxers lost the Southeast Conference game.

Tri-County 7, West Bridgewater 5: The Wildcats fall to 7-9.

Cardinal Spellman 7, Abington 6 (9 inn.): The Cardinals rallied back from deficits of 5-3 (in the bottom of the seventh inning) and 6-5 (in the bottom of the ninth) to nab the win. Michael Boutiette had the winning hit and Ben Sepeck (2-for-4) had a game-tying double. Jason Kelly was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored.

North Quincy 13, Quincy 2: Max Gaudiano and Kevin Pritchard each had a pair of hits and 3 RBIs as the Raiders (7-10) defeated the Presidents at Adams Field. Vinny O'Leary doubled and walked, stole 3 bases, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. John Toland (2 runs, 2 RBIs) and David D'Antona (2 hits, 2 runs, RBI) also starred. Charlie Ambroult earned the win, allowing 2 hits over 3 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Weymouth 10, Natick 2: Winning pitcher Sean Zaslaw allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits over 6 innings and was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Wildcats. Andrew Daley (3-for-3, double, 3 RBIs), Alex Pineiro (2-for-4, 3 runs, 2 steals) and Colin McPherson (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) also starred.

BOYS LACROSSE

Abington 16, Braintree 8: Hunter Grafton scored 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) for the Green Wave while Patrick Prewitt (2 goals, 2 assists) tallied his 100th career point. Zach Buccigross had a hat trick to go with 6 assists.

Blue Hills 8, Westport 7 (OT): The Warriors clinched their first state tournament berth since 2014 with the win. Michael Rapucci scored the winner.

Southeastern 9, Tri-County 2: Peyton Volz scored 4 goals and had an assist for the Hawks. Colton Penticost (2 assists), Brendan Cooper (assist) and Jeremiah Hale each scored one goal apiece.

Norwell 15, Hull 0: The Clippers won the South Shore League game.

Archbishop Williams 10, Arlington Catholic 7: The Bishops won on Senior Night.

Rockland 17, East Bridgewater 11: Lucas Leander (7 goals, 6 assists) scored 13 points for the Bulldogs in the win. Tyler Boehner scored 4 goals and added 4 assists. Michael Moriarty and Joe Earner (2 assists) both scored 2 goals. Austin Dewhurst played well defensively in the loss. Nikos Triantafilou, Cylis Hickey and Brett Peterson had solid showings on offense for EB.

Bridgewater-Raynham 12, Attleboro 5: Seniors James Murry (4 goals, assist), Pat Concannon (2 goals) and Matt Powers (goal) led the way for the Trojans (9-5) in their Senior Night win. B-R has clinched a tournament berth for the 12th consecutive season.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Abington 10, South Shore Tech 6: Molly Joyce tallied 8 draw controls and 2 goals to lead the Green Wave to the win. Ava Williamson (2 goals, assist), Natlie Van Luling (2 goals, 2 assists), Caitlin Happel (2 goals), Mary Klein (goal) and Emily Augusta (goal, 3 assists) chipped in offensively.

Norwell 10, Hanover 3: The Clippers (12-4) won the non-league game, led by Charlise Cox (3 goals, 3 draw controls), Maddie McDonald (2 goals, 2 assists), Holly Panttila (2 goals, 4 draw controls), Reese Stoddard (2 goals) and Charlotte Pithie (8 saves).

Old Rochester Regional 10, East Bridgewater 9: The Vikings won the non-league game.

Cohasset 9, Duxbury 8: Aizza Chase (9 saves) and Libby Schifman (winning goal) led the way for the Skippers (13-3).

Attleboro 12, Bridgewater-Raynham 5: Ashley McLaren (3 goals) and Emily Keefe (2 goals) provided the offense for the Trojans in the loss.

Cardinal Spellman 11, St. Mary's 7: The Cardinals won the Catholic Central League game behind 6 goals from Erin O'Donnell and 4 from Marina Duffy. Jenny Buckley scored a key goal in the second half while Grace Foster was a standout defensively.

Archbishop Williams 18, Arlington Catholic 5: The Bishops improve to 15-4.

Needham 17, Braintree 6: The Wamps dropped the Bay State Conference game.

Apponequet 16, Middleboro 4: The Sachems dropped the non-league game.

BOYS TENNIS

Duxbury 5, Silver Lake 0: The Dragons swept the Patriot League match.

Rockland/East Bridgewater 5, Middleboro 0: The win qualifies Rockland/EB (7-4) for the state tournament. Petr Quinn (first), Nick Mesheau (second) and Leo Monteiro (third) swept the singles matches. Logan Maguire/Kaden Gerstel (first) and Will Cifrino/Mo Asad (second) took the doubles matches.

Marshfield 3, Whitman-Hanson 2: Brady Wright (first singles) and Mateo Santalucia (second singles) both earned points for the Panthers.

North Quincy 4, Quincy 1: The win clinches a state-tournament spot for the Raiders.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bridgewater-Raynham 5, East Bridgewater 0: Nicole Kimball, Catherine Taylor and Meghan McInnes won singles matches for B-R while Marlena/Lily Cooley and Annaliese Colwell/Eily Mitchell won doubles matches.

Duxbury 5, Silver Lake 0: Caroline Sutliffe, Annabel Keating and Charlotte Ording won in singles for the Dragons.

Marshfield 4, Whitman-Hanson 1: The Panthers' lone point came from freshman Sam Jacobsen at second singles.

North Quincy 5, Quincy 0: The Raiders won the Patriot League match.

NDA sweeps: Notre Dame Academy swept a doubleheader vs. Malden Catholic, winning 4-1, 4-1.

GIRLS GOLF

Duxbury 5, Barnstable 1: Layla Penn, Hannah Stout, Mary Kate Higgins, Caroline Donovan and Hailey Flynn won their matches for the Dragons (11-1).

Scituate 5.5, Quincy/North Quincy .5: The Sailors won the Patriot League match.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Quincy 3, Barnstable 2: The Presidents (9-10) won on the road 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-6. Quincy had 41 kills, 40 assists and 63 digs.
