HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Avellar's four goals help Nauset girls soccer stay hot

Gideon Drury of Upper Cape Tech and Jace Clady of Cape Tech fight for possession of the ball in October.

The Nauset (11-2) girls soccer team has won nine of its last 10 games with a 7-0 win over Barnstable (0-13-1) on Thursday. Olivia Avellar scored four goals and dished out an assist, while Caroline Kennard added one goal and an assist for Nauset. Caroline Bothfeld and Madeline Coccoro (first varsity) each scored a goal, while Tess Williams dished out one assist.

Girls Soccer

Falmouth Academy 3, Rising Tide 2: Lexi Kalkanis, Faye McGuire, and JJ Marzot each scored a goal for the Mariners (6-7). Marzot scored the winner with seven minutes to play, while goalie Maria Soares made some good saves down the stretch.

Sturgis West 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Navigators (5-5-1) are back to .500 after the win over the Dolphins (1-14-1). Aubrey Fleming played well on defense, while Sienna Ahern-Harding did well attacking on offense for D-Y.

Sturgis East 4, Cape Cod Academy 3: The Storm (8-5) have won three straight and five of their last six. Jenna Marsh had six shots on goal, and scored twice to go with an assist for the Seahawks (5-7). Lili Shanahan had two shots on goal and made one, and added two assists. Flynn Kayajan had 13 saves in goal.

Monomoy 3, Nantucket 0: Karah Deveau had a brace (two goals), while Kiki Pigo Cronin added another goal to lead the Sharks (11-4-1) offense. Maya Flaherty had seven saves in goal, while Abrielle Long and Lilly Furman played well on defense. The Whalers fall to 6-8.

Upper Cape 8, Cape Tech 0: The Rams (9-5) have won three of their last four, while the Crusaders fall to 0-12-1.

Martha’s Vineyard 1, Falmouth 1: The Vineyarders (9-4-1) tied for the first time this season, while the Clippers move to 6-6-3 on the season. Elena Giordano received a through pass from Emily Coogan and took the ball down the sideline, crossing the ball to freshman Ava Townes, who received the cross, turned the Falmouth defender and scored in the far post for the Vineyarders goal.

Dighton-Rehoboth 3, Bourne 0: The Canalmen (8-8-1) lost their fourth straight.

Field Hockey

Barnstable 7, Nauset 0: Senior Ally McEneaney led the way with four goals for the Red Hawks (11-3-2). Juniors Shelby Locascio (one goal, one assist), Chloe Egan (one goal, two assists) and Samantha Marczely (one goal) all contributed on offense. Seniors Alexa Garthee, Carly Steenstra and Penny Baroni all had assists, while senior goalies Grace Holden and Meili Raspante split the shutout.

East Bridgewater 3, Mashpee 0: George Tompkins finished with 10 saves in the loss for the Falcons (2-11-1).

Sandwich 6, Carver 0: Alivia Barnes finished with two goals and one assist, while Khloe Schultz had one goal and two assists to lead the Blue Knights (14-0-1). Meghan Dwyer (one goal, one assist), Elisabeth Stutzman (one goal) and Quinn Jordan (one goal) all contributed for Sandwich.

Monomoy 3, Martha’s Vineyard 0: The Sharks (11-2-3) have won three of their last four games with a victory over the Vineyarders (0-7-3).

Girls Volleyball

Nantucket 3, Sturgis East 0: The Whalers (9-5) swept the Storm (4-8) at home. Viktoria Todorova led the defense with 27 digs, while Chloe Marrero added 10 kills and Yahely del Rosario Gomez dished out 20 assists for the Whalers offense.

Bishop Feehan 3, Barnstable 1: The Red Hawks (14-3) nine-match win streak was snapped as Bishop Feehan won in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-15). The Red Hawks offense was led by Molly Fredo (nine kills), Molly Gleason (seven kills), Dylan Andrews (five kills), and Charlotte Sullivan (five kills). Sadie Wellbeloved finished with 28 assists, five digs, and four kills, while Logan Hurwitz chipped in 12 digs.

Boys Soccer

Cape Tech 2, Upper Cape 2: The Rams (11-2-2) and Crusaders (6-7-3) ended in a draw. Senior Jadon Barton tied the game in the first half, while senior co-captain Gideon Drury scored off a corner kick assisted by senior Elijah Livramento that tied the game again in the second half for the Rams.

Dighton-Rehoboth 3, Bourne 0: Goalkeeper Nathan Reynolds had seven saves, while defender Dom Quelle finished with seven clearouts and 10 tackles for the Canalmen (1-11-2).

Sturgis East 4, Cape Cod Academy 0: The Storm (6-4-3) had four different goal scorers in the win over the Seahawks (1-11). Gabriel Codjoe (two assists), PJ Dacruz, Pedro Melo, and John DeMoura each netted a goal for Sturgis East.

Nantucket 2, Monomoy 1: After trailing 1-0, freshman Calvin Guerra scored two goals in a five-minute span that propelled the Whalers (8-3-3) to the victory. Sophomore Alex Ivalov made four saves in net for the Whalers, while seniors Rodane Watson and Kinnick King and junior Ryan Coleman played well on defense.

Falmouth Academy 0, Rising Tide 0: Jaiden Elber finished with 12 saves, while Gus McGuire played well on defense for the Mariners (7-4-2).

Falmouth 4, Martha’s Vineyard 1: The Clippers (3-9-3) picked up their first win over the last four games, while the Vineyarders (5-7-2) have dropped their last four.

Barnstable 0, Nauset 0: The Red Hawks (8-3-5) and Warriors (8-1-6) finished in a draw.

Football

Nantucket 28, Monomoy 12: After an 0-3 start, the Whalers (3-4) have won three of their last four games. The Sharks (2-5) have dropped four of their last five.

Boys Golf

SCC Championship: Bourne (12-5) placed fourth out of 10 teams at the South Coast Conference Championship. Luca Finton (81), Ryan Burgess (85), Griffin Kelly (9-2), Brett Lucier (94), Nate McDonnell (95) and Ronan Kelly (96) all placed in the top six for the Canalmen.
