HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Annual Swimming Cape Cod Classic

The 18th Annual Cape Cod Classic for high school swimming was held Saturday at Sandwich High School. On the girls side, Nauset placed first with 174 points over 24 events, followed by Nantucket (second, 151 points), Sandwich (third, 114), St. John Paul II (fourth, 83), Martha's Vineyard (fifth, 72), and Barnstable (sixth, 66).

For the boys, Martha's Vineyard finished first with 160 points, followed by Nauset (second, 148), Sandwich (third, 125), Barnstable (fourth, 56), Nantucket (fifth, 46), and St. John Paul II (sixth, 44).

Nauset

For the boys, Will Crowell placed first in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:53.83, D2ST) and the 500-yard Freestyle (5:23.51, SSEC).

Olean Thomas, Tom Foley, Crowell and Rai Michaud placed first (1:15.17, SSEC) in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Crowell, Thomas, Loring Eldred and Foley placed first in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (3:42.20).

On the girls side, Laura Kaser placed first in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:05.62, D2ST) and third in the 100-yard Butterfly (34.88, D2ST). Izzzy Hardwicke placed first in the 50-yard Freestyle (26.25, D2ST) and the 100-yard Freestyle (57.05, D2ST).

Nina Mako placed first in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:04.34, D1ST) and finished third in the 50-yard Freestyle (26.85, SSEC). Isabel Colella (1:07.14, SSEC) placed second in the 100-yard Backstroke.

Mako, Lila Keeney, Kaser and Hardwicke placed first in the girls 200-yard Medley Relay (2:00.43, D2ST). Hardwicke, Mako, Michaud and Kaser teamed up for a first-place finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (3:58.16, D2ST).

Nantucket

On the boys team, Jake Johnson (51.15, D2ST) placed first in the 100-yard Freestyle while Eli MacIver (1:08.90) finished in the top spot of the 100-yard Breaststroke.

On the girls team, Hannah Gerardi took the top spot in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:14.98, D2ST), and finished second (2:27.18, SSEC) in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

Myah Johnson (26.48, D2ST) placed second in the 50-yard Freestyle while Evie Phelps (5:35.54, D2ST) finished first in the 500-yard Freestyle.

Phelps, Hannah Harrington, Martina Savova and Johnson placed first in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:53.33, SSEC). Sara Dussault, Gerardi, Martina Savova and Johnson came in second (2:00.69, D2ST) in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Phelps, Harrington, Dussault and Gerardi finished second in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (4:12.61, SSEC).

Sandwich

For the boy Blue Knights, Ryan Milligan finished first in the 100-yard Backstroke (56.59, D1ST) and placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle (30.46, D2ST). Dawson Milligan finished first in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:00.39, D1ST) and the 100-yard Butterfly (52.98M, D1ST).

Hunter Morgan (1:01.54, SSEC) came in second in the 100-yard Backstroke.

Donovan Kelly, Tyler Lippincott, Daniel Flynn and Ryan Milligan placed first in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:39.59, SSEC).

For the Lady Knights, Emma Jakubicka (42.45, D2ST) finished in first place for the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Butterfly (1:03.20, D2ST).

Mia Giargiari, Lexi Eastman, Jakubicka and Emma Moynihan finished third (2:05.45, SSEC) in the 200-yard Medley Relay.

Saint John Paul II

For the girls, Leila Evans placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:05.62 D1ST) and the 100-yard Freestyle (57.70, D2ST).

Martha's Vineyard

For the boys, Kaua DeAssis took the top spot in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.16) and second in the 100-yard Freestyle (52.68, SSEC).

On the girls team, Paula Geschke finished second in the 100-yard Butterfly (1:04.07,D2ST) and the 500-yard Freestyle (5:37.86, D2ST).

Boys Hockey

Sandwich 6, Rockland 1: The Blue Knights (7-1) have won seven in a row, and remain unbeaten on the road (3-0). Chris Cardillo had a hat trick and dished out two assists, while Ty Creighton scored once and handed out three assists for Sandwich. Jack Connolly had one goal and one assist, Avery Richardson added one goal, and Dylan McCabe, Devin Mahoney, Harrison Delman and Logan Munk each had one assist. Quinn Johnston played well in net.

Barnstable 3, Arlington Catholic 2 OT): After they trailed by two after the second period, the Red Hawks (4-3-2) came back and scored two goals in the third period and the winner in overtime came off the stick of Chase Field.

Martha’s Vineyard 2, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Vineyarders improve to 5-2-1 while the Dolphins fall to 2-8.

Nauset 6, Bishop Stang 0: The Warriors have won three in a row and five of their last six (one tie). Julian Krivos and Jake Eldredge scored the first-period goals while Cam Connery and Max Lanzetta each notched a goal in the second period.

Falmouth 7, Dartmouth 6: Kodey Pokraka recorded a hat trick for the Clippers (3-5) while Finn Oberacker scored the winning goal — his first varsity goal.

St. John Paul II 4, Chicopee 0: The Lions (4-5-1) have won two of their last three games. Liam Monaghan scored once and added two assists, while Brady Meyer had a hat trick of assists. Brayden Short and Sean Willis each had a goal and an assist, Jon Valiga chipped in a goal, while Kelin MacAleese had the shoutout in net for JPII.

Bourne 3, Apponequet 1: The Canalmen (6-1-1) scored three goals in the final 5:30 minutes for a comeback win. Dana Leach scored the winning goal while Matteo Scena and Domenic Bonito each added a goal for Bourne. Caleb Kean and Ty Kelley each dished out two assists while Ryan Burgess chipped in an assist.

Southeastern 4, Upper Cape 3: After the Rams (2-5) trailed 3-0 in the second period, they scored three goals but could not complete the comeback. Charlie Carroll made 32 saves in net for Upper Cape. Kelan Keane scored his first goal of the season. Ty Rebeiro had a goal and Breydan Brennan had two points (one goal, one assist).

Old Rochester 7, Monomoy/Mashpee 0: The Monarchs (2-5) were shut out for the first time this season.

Girls Hockey

Bishop Feehan 3, Sandwich 1: Cali Kent scored the lone goal with assists from Marley Dwyer and Emma Itri for the Lady Knights (4-3-1) while Bryce Sawyer had 23 saves in net.

Falmouth 8, D-Y/CCA/JPII 2: The Clippers (7-1-1) won their fourth straight, as the D-Y co-op team falls to 1-5-1. Avery Johnsen scored four goals and added an assist, while Maeve Turner scored twice and dished out two assists for Falmouth. Hailey Ferreira and Rylin Briggs each contributed a goal. Kourtney David (D-Y) scored both goals for D-Y/CCA/JPII.

Boston Latin Academy 7, Nantucket 1: The Whalers fall to 0-5.

Boys Basketball

Nantucket 63, Falmouth 41: The Whalers (5-3) have won four of their last five while the Clippers (2-5) have dropped three of their last four.

Wrestling

Bob Gay Wrestling Invitational Tournament: Luke Steele led the way for Sandwich as he was crowned champ for his third consecutive tournament title this season. Steele pinned his first two opponents in times of times of 1:54 and 4:43. In the semi-finals, he edged out a 2-1 decision, which set up the final against Marco Yerardi of Foxboro. Steele broke a tie in overtime with an escape point, as he secured the 190 lb championship, and improved his record to 16-1.

First year wrestler Liam Hallet (Sandwich) placed fourth as he won two matches by pin, but came up just short in the semi-final against All-State placer Nathan Sayers. He picked up another pin in the consolation bracket, but fell in the finals.

After a loss in his first match, Henry Rockwell (Sandwich) came back with two wins by decision, which earned him a 6th place finish.

Will Fitzgerald-Klemp and Bradley McDonald each secured two victories by pin, while Alanna Raygoza, Jack Steele, Henry Mawhinney and Drew Rodman each added to the team points with wins by pin.
