Series: Cooper leads 36-25-1 in a series that dates back to 1961. AHS won 14-0 last year to snap a three-game skid to the Cougars.

What to know — Abilene High collected its most lopsided win over Permian since a 49-6 decision in 2003. The Eagles’ offense was impressive in rolling up 453 total yards. QB Dylan Slack threw for 215 yards and four TDs while running for another. Brayden Henry, who splits time at QB, had a team-high 118 yards on nine carries, including a 70-yard TD. WR Ryland Bradford had four catches for 89 yards and a TD. Austin Cummins (7-15-2 77 yards passing) made his first start at quarterback for Cooper, while Daniel Bray (14-58, TD) led the Coogs in rushing.

Series: Wylie leads 4-3 and has won three consecutive games in a series that started in 2016. Wylie won 30-0 last year in Lubbock.

What to know — Gio Cardenas’ 36-yard field goal with 30 seconds remaining in the game gave Monterey, 0-10 last year, its second win in its last 16 games last week. Jamarcus Smith (24-168 1 TD rushing) and Dezmond Williams (11-120 1 TD rushing) powered the Plainsmen. Wylie, which must replace district MVP K.J. Long at quarterback, struggled to get much going offensively last week as La Grange transfer Bryant Meng and Keegan Anderson split time at quarterback. WR Braden Regala, the district offensive MVP last year, provided a spark with 10 catches for 111 yards, including a 14-yard TD catch from Anderson.
