High school football roundup: Perry, Kirtland win lopsided games to advance

Nov. 3—The Kirtland football team continued its rampage with a 48-26 win over Canton Central Catholic in a Division VI, Region 21 game Nov. 3.

Rocco Alfieri and Jake LaVerde each ran for two touchdowns and Will Beers had a 169-yard rushing game as the Hornets improved to 11-1 and extended their winning streak to nine games.

The Hornets move on to play Cuyahoga Heights in a regional semifinal Nov. 10. It's a rematch of a Week 5 game won by the Hornets, 35-0.

Kirtland was never in danger against the Crusaders, opening a 21-0 lead after one on a LaVerde touchdown run, an Alfieri run and a 50-yard scoring pass from LaVerde to Gino Blasini. Alfieri and LaVerde scored again in the second, along with Macguire Boyd, to open a 41-7 halftime lead.

Canton Central Catholic scored 19 points in the fourth quarter against Kirtland's reserves.

—Perry ran its record to 12-0 with a 34-7 win over Sandy Valley in a Division V, Region 17 game Nov. 3. The win puts the Pirates in a regional semifinal Nov. 10 against Garrettsville (which is also 12-0).

The Pirates ran for a season-high 320 yards against Sandy Valley, with Jayden Studio running for 92 yards and two touchdowns, Brayden Richards running for 70 yards and a score. Owen McKoon ran for 64 and a score, and Dare'on Howard for 62.

Walter Moses threw for 146 yards and also had a touchdown run.

Perry's defense limited Sandy Valey to 210 total yards, including only 50 through the air by Nick Petro, who came in with more than 1,500 yards passing this season. Petro ran for 133 yards and his team's only score.

—Gilmour lost to Aurora, 30-27, in a Division III, Region 9 quarterfinal Nov. 3. The loss ends the Lancers' season at 9-3, while the Greenmen move on to face Chardon in a regional semifinal on Nov. 10.
