High school basketball roundup: Oxnard boys earn share of another league title

Led by Marcos Ramirez, the Oxnard High boys basketball team outlasted visiting Ventura for a 70-66 victory on Wednesday night to secure another league title for the storied program.

Ramirez made some big plays down the stretch and finished with 25 points and four assists as the Yellowjackets earned a share of the Channel League championship. Santa Barbara beat Rio Mesa 81-53 on Wednesday to secure its piece of the league title. The Yellowjackets and Dons each went 13-1 in the eight-team league, with each team winning at the other's home gym.

Oxnard has won five straight league titles and 20 in the last 26 seasons.

Nathaniel Gomez had 19 points and nine rebounds, Matthew Samaan had 12 points and seven assists, and David Giron scored 10 points for the Yellowjackets, who finished the regular season at 23-5 overall and will host a Division 1 playoff game next week. The CIF-SS will announce playoff pairings on Sunday afternoon.

Caleb Sebek had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Finn Fancher had 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead Ventura (9-16, 8-6), which finished third in the Channel League to qualify for the CIF-SS postseason.

In another Channel League game, Luke Ortiz had 26 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks, Josh Ullegue finished with 14 points and seven assists, Josh Toll scored 12 points, and Wake Molina added eight points as fifth-place Buena (12-16, 6-8) ended its season with a 77-49 victory over Dos Pueblos.

Seraphs get to 20 wins again

Isaiah Marin scored 17 points, Mathew Wilson had 17 points and four steals, Sam Seiden finished with 14 points, six steals and four assists, Donald Clark IV had 14 points, and Jeremy Goodcase contributed 12 points and eight rebounds as Tri-Valley League champion St. Bonaventure defeated Santa Clara 88-48 to finish unbeaten in league play.

The Seraphs (20-8, 8-0) secured back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in program history.

JD Pettit finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, Andy Pimental had six points, five rebounds and a block, and Adrian Jimenez had six points and two blocks for the Saints (10-16, 2-6).

Santa Paula girls perfect in league

Freshman Aryanna Lopez scored 16 points, Alyse Ramirez finished with 14 points, five steals and four assists, Jalynn Rico had eight points, and Angie Aguilera had six points, six rebounds and two steals as Citrus Coast League champion Santa Paula finished unbeaten in league play with a 70-12 victory over Hueneme.

The Cardinals (19-8, 12-0) won their third straight league championship.

Foothill Tech girls earn share of title

The Foothill Tech girls basketball team defeated Bishop Diego 52-42 to secure a share of the Tri-Valley League title. The Dragons finished the regular season 11-11 and 7-1 in league to share the crown with St. Bonaventure.

Ashton Brown hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points and Brody Baker scored 10 points to lead Foothill Tech (13-13, 5-2) to a 66-34 win over Grace Brethren in a Frontier League game. The second-place Dragons finish their regular season against Villanova Prep on Friday night at Ventura College.
