High school basketball roundup: Creek picks up region sweep at Ringgold; Murray takes down Rockmart

Jan. 23—Boys Christian Heritage 84, Southwest Atlanta Christian 55

Christian Heritage (16-4) rebounded from two straight losses with an 84-55 thrashing of Southwest Atlanta Christian (4-17) Tuesday.

Jax Abernathy scored 26 points for the Lions. Dontae Crowder and Cash Hare each scored 16 points.

Christian Heritage is now 3-1 in Region 7-A DII.

The Lions host Fulton Leadership Academy Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Coahulla Creek 58, Ringgold 45

Coahulla Creek (14-6) bounced back from its first Region 6-3A loss with a 58-49 win at Ringgold (10-9) Tuesday night.

Chase Ward scored 21 for the Colts, while Carter Quarles scored 11.

The Colts are now 8-1 in region play and remain in first place.

Creek plays at Adairsville Friday at 8:30.

Calhoun 52, Dalton 47

Dalton (7-12) had its three-game win streak halted with a 52-47 Region 7-5A loss at Calhoun (7-10) Tuesday.

The game was tied at halftime and Dalton led by three after three quarters, but Calhoun outscored Dalton 17-9 in the fourth quarter.

Eli Burt led Dalton with 11 points, and Drew Snyder had 10.

Dalton, now at 2-3 in the region, plays at Hiram Friday night at 7:30.

Northwest Whitfield 60, Cedartown 53

Northwest Whitfield (14-6) broke a three-game Region 7-4A losing skid with a 60-53 road victory over Cedartown (9-11) Tuesday.

Northwest trailed 44-43 after three quarters but pulled ahead in the fourth.

Isaiah Foster and Jackson Harris both put in 16 for the Bruins.

The Bruins improve to 3-3 in region play.

Northwest hosts Southeast Whitfield Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Murray County 65, Rockmart 51

Murray County (12-7) knocked off Region 7-2A opponent Rockmart (16-4) 65-51 at home on Tuesday.

Braxton Vineyard led the Indians with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Judah Woodall scored 15, Parker Hawkins had 14 points and 10 boards and Avery Jones scored 11.

Murray is now 5-3 in the region on the season.

The Indians play at Lumpkin County on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Sonoraville 87, Southeast Whitfield 49

Southeast Whitfield (2-18) fell 87-49 against Sonoraville (15-6) Tuesday night.

The Raiders are set to play on the road against Northwest Whitfield Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Girls Coahulla Creek 59, Ringgold 50

Coahulla Creek (14-5) ran its win streak to seven with a Region 6-3A 59-50 win over Ringgold (10-9) Tuesday.

Shea Poe led the Lady Colts wit 17, while Lilah Brooker and Aubree Langley each had 12 points. Annie Reed scored 10.

Coahulla is in first place in Region 6-3A with an 8-1 record.

Creek is at Adairsville Friday at 7 p.m.

Calhoun 52, Dalton 44

Dalton (11-8) dropped a Region 7-5A game at Calhoun (13-7) 52-44 Tuesday night.

Dalton matched Calhoun with 24 points after halftime, but an eight-point halftime lead by Calhoun carried the Yellow Jackets to a win.

The loss was the first for Dalton in Region 7-5A and gives the Lady Catamounts a 4-1 record.

Dalton plays at Hiram Friday at 6 p.m.

Murray County 75, Rockmart 28

Murray County (14-6) ripped past Rockmart (13-7) 75-28 Tuesday night in a Region 7-2A game.

Callan Ledford had 15 points. Bayleigh Winkler had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Miley McClure had 13 points.

Northwest Whitfield 46, Cedartown 42

Northwest Whitfield (11-7) held off Cedartown (7-12) 46-42 on the road on Tuesday.

The game was much closer than the matchup between the two earlier in the season, when Northwest won 64-23 at home.

Kennedy Baker led Northwest with 15 points, and Sloan Pender had nine.

The Lady Bruins are now 4-2 in Region 7-4A play.

Northwest plays Southeast at home Friday at 7 p.m.

Sonoraville 55, Southeast Whitfield 19

Southeast Whitfield (6-13) dropped a home Region 7-4A game to Sonoraville (9-12) 55-19 Tuesday.

The Lady Raiders play at Northwest Whitfield Friday at 7 p.m.
