High Desert Sports Roundup: Oak Hills closes in on the outright MRL baseball title

The Oak Hills baseball team is one victory away from clinching the Mojave River League title for the second season in a row.

The Bulldogs shutout Serrano 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon, and also Sultana 2-0 on Monday.

In the victory over Serrano, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, and added two more in the fourth.

Angelo Rizzo struck out 10 batters and allowed five hits over seven innings to pick up the win.

Jacob Webster went 2-for-4 with a stolen base; Connor Wagner went 2-for-3 with a RBI, a run and a stolen base; and Tyler Martinez went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

On Monday afternoon, Pauly Montoya also tossed a complete game. Montoya struck out seven batters and allowed three hits over seven innings.

Webster went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base; Martinez went 1-for-3 with a run; and Keith Williams went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

The Bulldogs have a three-game lead in the standings, and one more victory over the next three games will wrap up the outright title. Oak Hills hosts Serrano on Friday and ends the season with two games against Hesperia next week.

Sultana 10, Hesperia 3

At Hesperia, Brayden Booth went 4-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Sultans past the Scorpions on Wednesday afternoon.

LJ Borrego went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a run and a stolen base; Brody Sappington went 2-for-3 with a RBI, two runs and two stolen bases; Geoffrey Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base; and Isac Gamez went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run.

Riverside Prep 4, Hesperia Christian 0

At Oro Grande, the Silver Knights improved to 3-1 in Cross Valley League action with a victory over the Patriots on Wednesday.

Cayden Johnson picked up the win on the mound. He allowed four hits and stuck out six batters over six innings. Logan Sarkesian picked up the save with a scoreless seventh inning.

Isaiah Gomez went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases, and Adrian Jorge Jr. went 1-for-2 with a RBI.

For Hesperia Christian, Arlan Koester allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out four batters over six innings.

Apple Valley 5, Burroughs 1

At Apple Valley, Ethan Yazzie struck out five batters and allowed one run on three hits over five innings to lead the Sun Devils past the Burros on Wednesday.

Ryan Martinez struck out two batters over two innings in relief, and at the plate went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Phoenix Matsumoto went 1-for-2 with one RBI and a run; Aril Jackson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs; and Isaiah Reveron went 1-for-3 with a run.

Silverado 7, Barstow 3

At Victorville, the Hawks took sole possession of second place in the Desert Sky League standings.  Silverado now leads Victor Valley by a game in the standings, with three games left to play, including two against the Jackrabbits.

Brandon Chavez led the offense for Silverado by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Drew Weiss went 2-for-2 with a RBI and two runs.

Apple Valley 8, Serrano 3

At Apple Valley, the Sun Devils beat the Diamondbacks and are now in a tie for second place in the Mojave River League standings with Oak Hills.

Apple Valley and Oak Hills are both 5-2 in the standings with three games left to play.

Bethany Morrison powered the way for Apple Valley by going 2-fo- 4 with a home run, four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base.

For Serrano, Autumn Pratt went 3-for-3; Jamie Motley went 2-for-4 with a RBI; and Camryn Plein went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.

Academy for Academic Excellence 24, Big Bear 2

At Big Bear, the Knights racked up 21 hits, while Kayla Berg and Paityn Thibodeaux both collected five hits.

Thibodeaux led the way by going 5-for-5 with a home run, three doubles, eight RBIs, three runs and a stolen base. Berg went 5-for-5 with a home run, three doubles, seven RBIs and five runs

Haylee Berg picked up the win in the circle. She struck out eight batters and allowed two runs on four hits. At the plate, she went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a RBI.

Dayleen De Los Cuetos went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, three runs and a stolen base.

Silverado 12, Barstow 11

At Barstow, Haylee Stanislawski tallied five hits as the Hawks pulled off a victory over the Aztecs on Tuesday afternoon.

Stanislawksi ended 5-for-5 with a RBI and three runs. Valerie Beltran went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs

For Barstow, Alyssa Ramsey went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and two stolen bases, and Riley Purdy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Adelanto 18, Victor Valley 3

At Victorville, three players tallied four hits each as the Saints beat the Jackrabbits by mercy rule on Tuesday afternoon.

Monica Flores led the charge for Adelanto by going 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases; Briana Davis went 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs; Alyah Vidana went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base; and Ce’onie Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs.

Silverado 13, Adelanto 5

At Adelanto, the Hawks beat the Saints on Tuesday to become back-to-back Desert Sky League champions.

Christian Sauceda swept with two bagels to help lead the way. Silverado also got sweeps from Ricardo Lemuz, along with the doubles team of Donovan Smith and Mark Maradiaga.

Oak Hills 12, Serrano 6

At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs didn’t drop a set in doubles action and clinched the Mojave River League championship with a victory over the Diamondbacks Tuesday afternoon.

In doubles action, Oak Hills got sweeps from the doubles teams of Herman Velasco and David Gonzalez (6-2, 6-0, 6-0), Josue Soto and Kanoah Pascua (6-3, 6-1, 6-1), and Hayden Christensen and Angel Guzman (6-3, 6-1, 6-0).
