Hesperia Christian’s Eden Skinner is the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

There were 11,968 votes cast this week in the final race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll.

Hesperia Christian’s Eden Skinner ended with 58.53% of total votes casted by Daily Press readers.

The star softball player received 7,005 votes, beating out four other high school athletes from across the High Desert.

To earn a spot on this week’s ballot, Eden collected three hits to lead the offense for the Patriots in the CIF-Southern Section Division 8 title game on May 17. Eden ended the day by going 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and two stolen bases as Hesperia Christian beat Jurupa Valley 8-7.

In the voting, Eden beat out Serrano’s Landon Staley, who ended with 28.63% at 3,427 total votes.

The nominees were selected based on performances between May 13 to 18.

Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.

  • How long have you been playing your sport and how did you get started: I have played softball since I was six years old because my mom made me. Thank you mom!

  • What do you like most about your sport: I love the team atmosphere that is encouraging, loud and positive. I especially love my team this year because they are such amazing girls.

  • Do you have a pregame ritual: I say a prayer to Jesus to calm my nerves and get my mindset ready. Then, I go out and get pumped with my team and on occasion, dance and sing.

  • What’s your most memorable sports moment: My most memorable moment was when I got in a pickle in the bottom of the seventh inning of CIF-SS finals to score the tying run, and then going on to win the finals.

  • If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be and why: I would be one of Jesus’ disciples so that I could see Jesus teach.

  • Someone hands you $1 million, how would you spend it: I would buy a ranch and also use the money to start a charity to help children in need. I would also buy my brother a capybara.

  • Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world and why: I would travel to Iceland to see the northern lights.

  • If you had an extra hour every day, how would you spend it: Reading my Bible and spending more time with my family.

  • What superpower do you wish you had: Super speed

  • Favorite sports team: The Savannah Bananas

  • Favorite athlete: Peyton Gaytan from the Apple Valley Sun Devils

  • Favorite superhero: Quicksilver

  • Favorite show: “Psych”

  • Favorite movie: “Penelope”

  • Favorite song: I don’t have one favorite song, however, my favorite band is Needtobreathe.

  • Favorite meal: A hobo skillet from Corky’s Kitchen and Bakery.

  • Favorite local restaurant: Mama Carpino’s

  • Favorite app: The Bible App
